Teaching plan for Module 4 Book4 ------------Zhao Min

I. Teaching Material Analysis “rocket” is the fifth period of this module. It’s the cultural corner. In this part,we’ll learn something about rockets.After studying the text,the students will be clear about the history and development of rockets.This supplementary reading will enrich the students’ knowledge of some scientific invention. II. Teaching Objectives 1. Language Objectives (1) Some words and expressions related to rockets: By accident, be at war with, Attach sth to sth,
be born ,a form of, in space.

(2) Sentence pattern: (the passive voice) ① Rockets were invented by... ② The idea of rocket was born. ③ They were used for... 2. Ability Objectives (1) Learn to read with some reading strategies. (2) Improve students’ integrated abilities of speaking and reading. (3) Learn the history of rockets. 3. Moral Objectives (1) Enjoy the pleasure of self-learning and team-work. (2) Learn to communicate with others to solve problems. III. Important Points 1. Master some words about rockets, such as: By accident, be at war with, Attach sth to sth, be born ,a
form of, in space.

2. Develop students’ reading ability of skimming and scanning. IV. Difficult Points 1. How to analyze the text and grasp the main idea of the text. 2. How to make the sentence structure understood. V. Teaching Methods 1. Task-based methods: According to the task-based methods, reading and speaking are important skills in English learning. The teacher gives students some tasks to help them have a better understanding of this text. After finishing these tasks, students can practice their

speaking and thinking ability. 2. Pair work: The teacher makes students work in pairs to solve some problems. Through this, students can have good relationships with each other. And they can enjoy the pleasure of self-learning and pair-work. 3. Teaching Aids: Media player; textbook; blackboard; chalk VI. Learning Methods Reading strategies: Reading requires students to analyze the passage and tries to get the main idea of the text. It’s difficult for them to get all of the aspects, so students need to develop some reading strategies, such as, skimming, skinning, summarizing information, making inferences and so on. So in this class, students will be lead to develop these reading strategies. VII. Teaching Procedures Step I Lead-in (5mins) First I will greet my students. Through greeting teachers can get closer to the students, and relax the students; and it’s also a good way to call students’ attention. Then I will give some pictures about different kinds of rockets. I’ll ask students to guess how rockets were

invented.What things can rockets do today?Through this, I can introduce the topic to the students. surely this can stimulate students’ interest to take an active part in what we are going to learn in this class. Step II Skimming (6mins) In this part, I will ask the students to look at the title and go through this passage quickly and try to get the main idea. Then I will ask them to find the answers to question before this text. Ask one student to answer them. Step III Careful Reading (29mins) For this part, the main purpose is to help students find the history and usage about rockets. First, ask the students to read the passage. After that, I will ask them to tell me the main idea of each paragraph.Then I’ll write down the main idea of each paragraph. And some key words , useful expressions uner each main idea.My purpose is to let students have a better understanding of each paragraph, and the whole passage. Step IV Summary (2mins) After we finish learning a class, it’s better for the teacher to draw a conclusion of what have been talked about in the class. In this way, it can remind the students what they’ve learnt and also will help them understand it better. So I will lead them to review what we have learned in this class.

Step V Homework (2mins) This part is quite necessary. In this section, I will ask them to do the exercise in their workbooks, so students can know what we have learnt today. VIII. Blackboard Design Blackboard design is very important for teaching. Some difficult points and important points will be written on the blackboard to achieve visual effects. My blackboard design is quite simple and clear. On one side, it will be the table about the rockets. On the other side, I just write the key points, I think it’s useful for students have a clear understanding of the text.
