Teaching Contents: Lesson 4 (Reading): City and Country Unit 1 Lifestyles Module1 by Beijing Normal University Press [ 全日制普通高中课程标准实验教科书(必修模块)北师大版高一英语模块 1 第一单元《生活方式》的第四课(阅读) 《城市和乡村》] I. Analysis of the teaching contents Such is a reading lesson. This text consists of two passages, either of which is a narrative. The biggest characteristic of the narrative is to develop the text chronologically. This text perfectly reflects the characteristics of narrative. The two articles according to time cues can be clearly divided into three parts: during the daytime, in the evening, on the weekend. At the same time, we can also develop the qualities of students to compare the two different lifestyles, , which carries out emotional education to students. II. Design of Teaching Objectives 1. Knowledge objectives 1).Vocabulary: accountant, tube, crowded, nearby, otherwise, crowd forecast, lung, distance, sickness, cigar 2).Phrase: by/before/towards nine o’clock, so that, such that, take care of, free of charge, look forward to, 3).Grammar:(stress) This is+ adj.+ what/who/where; so+ that; such +that 2. Ability objectives 1).Listening skills :understand what the teacher's saying. 2).Reading skills :general understanding,detail information,judge 3).Speaking skills: use the new expressions to make a sentence 4).writing skills:write a short passage on your ideal life in the city or in the countryside with new words and expressions learned 3. Emotion objectives healthy lifestyle, how do you make your life in a city or in a village better. Enjoy your own life rather than envy others’. Ⅲ. Teaching Important Points 1. Learn and use the words and phrases listed above. 2. Enable the students to improve their reading comprehension. 3. Enable the students to make good use of reading strategies. Ⅳ. Teaching Difficult Points 1. How to help the students understand the passage better. 2. How to help the students improve the cross cultural awareness. Ⅴ. Teaching Methods

StepⅡ Before Reading (4 minutes) Task2 New words Help Ss get familiar with some new words while looking at some pictures about City and Country life. Read the new words with Ss for several times. accountant, tube, crowded, nearby, otherwise, crowd forecast, lung, distance, sickness, cigar Step Ⅲ While-reading(27minutes) 1. Fast Reading Task3 Finding out the paragraphs. Read through the text quickly and help Ss match each paragraph with the main idea. 教师活动:Show some pictures with the main idea. 学生活动:Read the whole passage quickly and get a general idea of each paragraph. 2. Intensive Reading ⑴ Task4 Detailed reading for key information. 教师活动 : Ask Ss to read the two articles carefully for detailed information 学 生 活 动 : Read the two articles carefully, underline some key information and compete for points for group each own. (competition) (2points) Read and fill in the table with information about Debbie and Paul’s lives. Add information about your own life and compare. 学 生 活 动 : Listen to the listening material carefully to check our pronunciation and intonation and relax ourselves in beautiful English. 设计目的:让学生更进一步巩固所学知识,掌握准确纯正的英语发音,增强学生 的语言输入。 3.Deep Understanding (3) Task6: Role-play 教师活动:Ask Ss to be roles of Debbie and Paul. (两张图片)

学生活动: 1) Find out the clues of the development of the two passages. 2) Work in pairs and one is Debbie while the other one is Paul to make a dialogue. 设计目的:①帮助学生进行课堂反思,自己学到了些什么知识; 学生收集课文中问题,以便读后进一步讨论。 ②练习学生的归纳拓展与口头表达能力。 StepⅣ Post-Reading(9 minutes) (4) Task7: Voice your opinion. 教师活动: Ask Ss to think about what lifestyles they prefer, city or country. 学生活动:Look at the chart then try to think out some words to describe the advantages and disadvantages living in the city or the country. These may help them. 设计目的:①运用上一步 Role-play 的成果。在语言应用能力的层次上,进一步 增强语言输出的能力。 ②培养学生跨文化交流意识,对学生进行有效的情感教育。
