Instead, they are talking about a lovely animal：A dog! These words show the friendship between people and animals. Dogs and other pets can give happiness to people’s lives. Some people think of their pets as their children. A few even leave all their money to their pets when they die! Animals can help people, too. Dogs can be taught to become the “eyes”for a blind person or “ears”for a deaf people. Scientists have found that pets help people live longer! They make people happier, too. Because of that, animals are
brought into hospitals for “visit”. Americans hold “Be---Kind-to-Animals Week”in the first week of May. Pets shows are held during the week. Even if you don’t live in America, you, too, can do this. How? First, think about how animals make your life richer. If you have a pet, take more time this week to play with it. Remember to give it delicious food. Also, be sure to keep your pet from those unwanted babies. If you don’t have a pet, be kind to animals around you. For example, if you see a street dog, don’t kick(踢)it or throw things at it. Instead, just leave it alone, or beter yet, make friends with it. If others around you do bad things to an animal, try to shop them. As people, we must protect animals who can’t speak for themselves. 56. “A few even leave all their money to their pets when they die!”means that__________ A. pets have the right (权力) to inherit (继承) money. Pets are lovely and need care and protection. D. We have done a lot of things for pets. 60. The words“ man’s best friends”shows____________. A. the friendship between people. B. the friendship between people and animals. C. the friendship between animals. D. the friendship between men and women B Linda Evans was my best friend---like the sister I never had. We did everything together: piano lessons, movies, swimming, horseback riding. When I was 13, my family moved away. Linda and I kept in touch through letters, and we saw each other on special times----like my wedding（婚礼）and Linda’s. Soon we were busy with children and moving to new homes, and we wrote less often. One
day a card that I sent came back, stamped “Address（地址）Unknown”. I had no idea how to find Linda. Over the years, I missed Linda very much. I wanted to share （分享）happiness of my children and then grandchildren. And I needed to share my sadness when my brother and then mother died. There was an empty place in my heart that only a friend like Linda could fill. One day I was reading a newspaper when I noticed a photo of a young woman who looked very much like Linda and whose last name was Wagman----Linda’s married name. “There must be thousands of Wagmans.” I thought, but I still wrote to her. She called as soon as she got my letter. “Mr. Tobin!” she said excitedly, “ Linda Evans Wagman is my mother.” Minutes later I heard a voice that I knew very much, even after 40 years, laughed and cried and caught up on each other’s lives. Now the empty place in my heart is filled. And there’s one thing that Linda and I know for sure: We won’t lose each other again! 61．The writer went to piano lessons with Linda Evans . A．for about 40 years B．for about 27 years C．since they got married D．since the writer’s family moved away C America is a mobile society. Friendships between Americans can be close and real, yet disappear soon if situations change. Neither side feels hurt by this. Both may exchange Christmas greetings for a year or two, perhaps a few letters for a while
— then no more. If the same two people meet again by chance, even years later, they pick up the friendship. This can be quite difficult for us Chinese to understand, because friendships between us flower more slowly but then may become lifelong feelings, extending (延伸) sometimes deeply into both families. Americans are ready to receive us foreigners at their homes, share their holidays, and their home life. They will enjoy welcoming us and be pleased if we accept their hospitality (好客) easily. Another difficult point for us Chinese to understand Americans is that although they include us warmly in their personal everyday lives, they don’t show their politeness to us if it requires a great deal of time. This is usually the opposite of the practice in our country where we may be generous with our time. Sometimes, we, as hosts, will appear at airports even in the middle of the night to meet a friend. We may take days off to act as guides to our foreign friends. The Americans, however, express their welcome usually at homes, but truly can not manage the time to do a great deal with a visitor outside their daily routine. They will probably expect us to get ourselves from the airport to our own hotel by bus. And they expect that we will phone them from there. Once we arrive at their homes, the welcome will be full, warm and real. We will find ourselves treated hospitably. For the Americans, it is often considered more friendly to invite a friend to their homes than to go to restaurants, except for purely business matters. So accept their hospitality at home! 66. The writer of this passage must be ______. A. an American B. a Chinese C. a professor D. a student 67. Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage? A. Friendships between Americans usually extend deeply into their families. B. Friendships between Americans usually last for all their lives. C. Americans always show their warmth even if they are very busy. D. Americans will continue their friendships again even after a long break. 68. From the last two paragraphs we can learn that when we arrive in America to visit an American friend, we will probably be ______. A. warmly welcomed at the airport B. offered a ride to his home C. treated hospitably at his home D. treated to dinner in a restaurant 69. The underlined words “generous with our time” in Paragraph 3 probably mean ______. A. strict with time B. willing to spend time C. careful with time D. serious with time 70. A suitable title for this passage would probably be “______”. A. Friendships between Chinese B. Friendships between Americans C. Americans’ hospitality D. Americans’ and Chinese’s views of friendship D

How do you react when a family member, friend, or a classmate makes a mistake? Some of us may shout out , complain, or punish. Unfortunately, these reactions to mistakes sometimes greatly hurt both sides. In fact, there is a better way to deal with a mistake. Reframe（重组） "MISTAKE": Change "MISTAKE" into "MIS-TAKE." Doesn't that have a different feeling? Therefore, a mistake is not so bad as expected. We can learn from it and it is likely to lead to success in the end. Use mistakes as an opportunity for learning. Most of us want to hide our mistakes, but we may be more willing to share our "MIS-TAKES" and let others learn from them. Either an individual or a family can benefit by openly recognizing and correcting mistakes, rather than pretending that they didn't happen. In fact, a mistake, if corrected quickly and in a creative way, can become a ___________for learning. Think of mistakes as opportunities to prove yourself. A mistake becomes an opportunity to create a close friend or customer. For example, in business, studies show that one of the things all customers want is recovery when the organization has made a mistake. They want us to apologize sincerely. With creative thinking, we can make them satisfied with the way we deal with a mistake. We have learned to allow people around us to make mistakes. Now give them “protection” when they make a mistake. If you give people both permission and protection, you will get along well with them. Show them how they can turn a mistake into learning something about themselves so they don’t make the same mistake again. 76. What is the passage mainly about? (no more than 10 words) ___________________________________________________________ 77. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 2 probably refer to? (no more than 3 words) ___________________________________________________________ 78. Fill in the blank in Paragraph 3 with proper words.(no more than 2 words) __________________________________________________________ 79. What you should do if you want to get along with people ?(no more than 6 words) __________________________________________________________________________ 80. Why should you show people how to turn a mistake into learning something about themselves ? (no more than 12 words)
