There I was walking home at one in the morning after a tiring practice at the theater. With opening night only a week away, I was still learning my lines. I was having trouble dealing with my part-time job at the bank and my acting at night at the same time. As I walked, I thought seriously about giving up both acting and San Francisco. City life had become too much for me. As I walked down empty streets under tall buildings, I felt very small and cold. I began running, both to keep warm and to keep away from any possible robbers. Very few people were still out except a few sad-looking homeless people under blankets. About a block from my apartment, I heard a sound behind me. I turned quickly, half expecting to see someone with a knife or a gun. The street was empty. All I saw was a shining streetlight. Still, the noise had made me nervous, so I started to run faster. Not until I reached my apartment building and unlocked the door did I realize what the noise had been. It had been my wallet falling to the sidewalk. Suddenly I wasn't cold or tired any more. I ran out of the door and back to where I'd heard the noise. Although I searched the sidewalk anxiously for fifteen minutes, my wallet was nowhere to be found. Just as I was about to give up the search, I heard the garbage truck pull up to the sidewalk next to me. When a voice called from the inside, “Alisa Camacho?” I thought I was dreaming. How could this man know my name? The door opened, and out jumped a small red-haired man with an amused look in his eyes. “Is this what you're looking for?” he asked, holding up a small square shape. It was nearly 3 a.m. by the time I got into bed. I wouldn't get much sleep that night, but I had got my wallet back. I also had got back some enjoyment of city life. I realized that the city couldn't be a bad place as long as people were willing to help each other. 56.How did the writer feel when she was walking home after work? A. Cold and sick B. B Few laws are so effective that you can see results just days after they take effect. But in the nine days since the federal cigarette tax more than doubled—to $ 1.01 per pack—smokers have jammed telephone “quit lines” across the country seeking to kick the habit. This is not a surprise to public health advocates. They’ve studied the effect of state tax increases for years, finding that smokers, especially teens, are price sensitive. Nor is it a shock to the industry, which fiercely fights every tax increase. The only wonder is that so many states insist on closing their ears to the message. Tobacco taxes improve public health, they raise money and most particularly, they deter people from taking up the habit as teens, which is when nearly all smokers are addicted. Yet the rate of taxation varies widely. In Manhattan, for instance, which has the highest tax in the nation, a pack of Marlboro Light Kings cost $10. 06 at one drugstore Wednesday. In Charleston, S.C. , where the 7-cent-a-pack tax is the lowest in the nation, the price was $ 4.78. The influence is obvious. In New York, high school smoking hit a new low in the latest surveys—13.8%, far below the national average. By comparison, 26% of high school students smoke in Kentucky. Other low-tax states have similarly depressing teen-smoking records. Hal Rogers, Representative from Kentucky, like those who are against high tobacco taxes, argues that the burden of the tax falls on low-income Americans “who choose to smoke.” That’s true. But there is more reason in keeping future generations of low-income workers from getting hooked in the first place. As for today’s adults, if the new tax drives them to quit, they will have more to spend on their families, cut their risk of cancer and heart disease and feel better. 61.The text is mainly about . A.the price of cigarettes B.the rate of teen smoking C.the effect of tobacco tax increase D.the differences in tobacco tax rate 62.What does the author think is a surprise? A.Teen smokers are price sensitive. B.Some states still keep the tobacco tax low. C.Tobacco taxes improve public health. D.Tobacco industry fiercely fights the tax rise. 63.The underlined word “deter” in Paragraph 3 most probably means . A.discourage B.remove C.benefit D.free 64.Rogers’ attitude towards the low-income smokers might be that of . A.tolerance B.unconcern C.doubt D.sympathy

65.What can we learn from the last paragraph? A.The new tax will be beneficial in the long run. B.Low-income Americans are more likely to fall ill. C.Future generations will be hooked on smoking. D.Adults will depend more on their families. C The US government has started a website, Admongo, to help children think critically about the advertising aimed at them. It claims to provide visitors with an “aducation” through games and other entertainment. A cartoon man dressed in old time pilot clothing greets visitors to Admongo. "Call me Haiz", he says upon arrival in a rocket ship that opens up with a crazy world inside it. Spacey dance music plays in the background as Haiz tells visitors that they need to learn about advertising. Its inventors say eight to twelve years old is the age kids develop their critical thinking abilities. Kids that age are also a big market for advertisers. The idea behind Admongo is to teach children three things: To ide ntify the advertiser. To know what the advertiser is really saying. And to know what the advertisement is trying to get the child to do. Children learn these things through a video game. They create their own game character. They can choose different skin colors, hair styles, eye and mouth shapes. Then they begin a trip through ad-land, where there are ads on buses and billboards. The players have to find all the marketing in the neighborhood before they can move on to the next level. The Admongo game takes players inside a home, to the advertising studio and everywhere else ads can be found. It is a complete exploration of the world of marketing. One such area is food marketing. The Federal Trade Commission(FTC) says it is a big business. The FTC estimates that food, drink and fast-food restaurants spent more than one and a half billion dollars on advertising to young people in 2009. The FTC says children are important for three reasons. They buy products. They influence parents and caregivers to buy. And they are the future adult buyers of the products. A recent study says most advertising aimed at children is for foods of the lowest nutritional value. First Lady Michelle Obama has said she would like to see advertisers marketing healthy foods for children. 66.What is the best title of the text? A. The guide of Admongo B. An aducation website for children C. A popular online video game D. A website aimed at children 67. Why did the government start the website? A. To attract the biggest market of buyers. B. To sell the products of its company. C. To help children know about advertising. D. To advertise the video game for children.

Unplugged is being run by Dr. Roman Gerodimos, a lecturer in Communication and Journalism at Bournemouth University.During the experiment, Dr. Gerodimos said there were already signs of how much the exercise affected volunteers . He said : “They’re reporting withdrawal symptoms, overeating, feeling nervous, isolated and disconnected.” During their 24-hour test, three of the experiment’s participants were followed around by a BBC reporter plus cameraman. They were asked to write down 100 lines about their day offline, but of course, they all waited until the next day when they had access to their laptops. Elliot Day wrote:“Today, my whole morning routine was thrown up into the air.Despite being aware of the social importance of the media, I was surprised by how empty my life felt without the radio or newspapers.” From Caroline Scott, we read:“I didn’t expect it, but being deprived of the media for 24 hours resulted in my day-to-day activities becoming so much harder to carry out than usual…I didn’t break out in a cold sweat like our lecturer expected us all to, but It’s not something I would like to do again!” And Charlotte Gay wrote: “I have to say the most difficult item for me to be without has been my mobile;not only is it a social device, it’s my main access point of communication. ” Earlier in the year, a UK government study found that in the UK we spend about half our waking hours using the media, often plugged into several things at once. So, with technology continuing to develop at an alarming rate, how much time will you set aside for sleep in the future? 71.What can we learn about the volunteers? 注意事项: 1.用黑色或蓝色钢笔,圆珠笔直接答在答题纸上。2.答卷前将密封线内的项目填写清楚。 第四部分:书面表达(共两节,满分 35 分) 第一节:阅读表达(共 5 小题,每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) [1]Whether you're recovering from a foot injury or working hard to prevent one, a proper warm-up before athletic activity is important. You should start with a general warm-up. This is intended to get your heart rate up and your muscle groups warm. Walking, gentle jogging or basic aerobics (有氧运动) are all good places to start. The general warm-up should increase your heart rate and speed up breath so that your blood becomes oxygen-rich and carries nutrients to the muscle groups you're about to work. [2]After the general warm up, move on to basic stretching, which doesn't require a lot of movement. Stretch your legs, ankles, feet, arms, chest and back. After completing these basic stretches, you can move on to sport-specific stretching. They should focus on the muscle groups you're about to engage and prepare your body for the types of movements the sport requires. [3]Failure to warm up properly before athletics can result in injuries. So don't forget to stretch your feet and ankles when warming up! Point and bend your feet. Gently roll your ankle in one direction, and then in the other direction. Rise up on your toes and then gently rock back so that your weight is on your heels. [4]Cooling down after physical activity is just ________________ warming up. First stretch the muscle groups and parts of the body you just worked the hardest. Then move on to general body stretching. And finally, cool down with a gentle aerobic activity that will gradually return your heartbeat to its resting rate. [5]Properly fitting athletic shoes are also important to preventing foot injuries. Look for athletic shoes specific to your foot type. People with high arches (足弓) should buy shoes which

One possible version: Tracking My Growth The process of growing up is complex for every person, for there are many influential factors in a person’s growth as well as the development of his personality. As for me, what has affected me most in my both growth and personality are family and friends, the two equally important factors. After one is born, the first surroundings is the family in which he will grow up.Family plays a significant role in shaping children’s character because it’s children’s most direct source of knowledge and experiences. Those who are brought up in good families tend to possess many pleasant characters and vice versa. On the other hand, friends in some ways influence him more rapidly than families do.Friends have many different opinions and personalities.Discussing with them builds up his personality.Frankly speaking, I get lots of valuable things from my friends. Family offers me warmth and care.Friends give me strength and horizons. Therefore, both of them are most influential in my growth
