Mr.Wen, who last visited India five years ago, brings with him one of the largest teams of Chinese business leaders ever to visit India. The latest of a number of world leaders to visit India, Mr. Wen is accompanied by some 400 Chinese business leaders. China is India’s largest trading partner---two-way trade volumes are set to hit $60 billion this year. Mr Wen is due to meet Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday. Indian and
Chinese companies signed some 50 deals in power, telecommunications, steel, wind energy, food and marine products worth $16 billion at the end of a business conference attended by Mr Wen in the capital, Delhi, on Wednesday evening. This overtakes the $10 billion of business agreements signed between Indian and American businessmen during the recent visit of US President Barack Obama to India. “There is enough space in the world for the development of both China and India and there are enough areas for us to cooperate,” Mr. Wen told the business conference. The Chinese delegation dwarfs (使相形见绌) the number of trade chiefs led in recent weeks to India by US President Barack Obama (215), French President Nicolas Sarkozy (more than 60) and British Prime Minister David Cameron (about 40). Later this week, Mr. Wen will travel to India’s nuclear-armed neighboring rival(对手), Pakistan, for a two-day official visit. Though mutual trade with China is booming, the relationship is not benefiting India as much as it might, say analysts. Delhi has been demanding greater access to Chinese medicine and IT markets as it seeks to level a large trade surplus(贸易顺差）in China’s favor of up to ? billion. 25 56. We can learn from the passage that __________. A. Some leaders of other different countries had been to India for visits before Mr. Wen Jiaobao’s visit B. Other leaders including Barack Obama last visited India five years ago C. Mr. Wen had visited India for the 1st time as Chinese Premier D. Barack Obama paid a visit to Pakistan after leaving India 57. What does the underlined word “mutual” means__________? A. successful B. two-sided C. later D. recent 58. What information can you get from this passage? A. Pakistan is one of the good and cooperative neighbors of India. B. Pakistan and India are good competitors in the trade with China. C. There will be a nuclear war between the two countries, India and Pakistan. D. Pakistan has developed into one of the countries armed with nuclear weapons. B Engineers at a major aerospace company were instructed to test the effects of bird-strikes on the windshield(挡风玻璃) of airliners and military jets. To simulate(模拟) the effect of a goose colliding with an aircraft traveling at a high speed, the test engineers built a powerful gun, with which they fired dead chickens at the windshields. The simulations using the gun and the dead chickens worked extremely effectively, happily proving the suitability of the windshields, and several articles about the project appeared in the testing industry press. It so happened that another test laboratory in a different part of the world was involved in assessing bird-strikes---in this case on the windshields and the drivers’ cabs(驾驶室) of new high-speed trains. The train test engineers had read about the pioneering test developed by the aerospace team, and so they approached them to ask for specifications of the gun and the testing methods. The aerospace engineers gave them details, and the train engineers set about building their own simulation. The simulated bird-strike tests on the train windshields and cabs produced shocking results. The supposed high-speed train windshields offered little resistance to the high-speed chickens; in
fact every single windshield that was submitted for testing was struck to pieces, along with a number of train cabs and much of the test-lab itself. The frightened train engineers were concerned that the new high-speed trains required a safety technology that was beyond their experience, so they contacted the aerospace team for advice and suggestions, sending them an extensive report of the tests and failures. The brief reply came back from the aero-engineers: “You need to defrost( 解 冻 ) the chickens…” 59. The underlined phrase “colliding with” in the first paragraph can be replaced by “________”. A. hitting B. catching C. throwing D. leaving 60. How did the test engineers simulate the effect of a goose colliding with an aircraft? ① defrosting the chickens ② building a powerful gun ③ putting the chickens into the gun ④ firing dead chickens at the windshields A. ③②①④ B. ② ③①④ C. ②①③④` D. ③①② ④ 61. The train engineers’ tests failed because _________. A. the trains’ speed was too high. B. the train windshields were not hard enough C. the testing methods were not suitable for the train D. they didn’t defrost the chickens before firing them 62. What can we learn from the aero-engineers’ brief reply? A. The train engineers were not clever enough. B. The aerospace team’s suggestions were not correct. C. The aero-engineers were playing tricks on the train engineers. D. The train engineers didn’t pay attention to every detail. C Our grand China tour will show you a different China! According to the Canadian Pulp and Paper Association, Canada supplies 34% of the world’s wood pulp and 49% of its newsprint paper. If these paper products could be produced in some other way, Canadian
forests could be preserved. Recently, a possible alternative way of producing paper has been suggested by agriculturalists and environmentalists: a plant called hemp. ? Hemp has been grown by many countries. It produces fiber which can be made into paper, fuel, oils, textiles, food, and rope. For centuries, it was essential to the economies of many countries because it was used to make the ropes and cables used on sailing ships; colonial expansion and the establishment of a world-wide trading network would not have been possible without hemp. Nowadays, ships’ cables are usually made from wire, but scientists are now suggesting that the growing of hemp should be revived(恢复) for the production. According to its supporters, four times as much paper can be produced from land using hemp rather than trees, and many environmentalists believe that the large-scale growing of hemp could reduce the pressure on Canada’s forests. ? However, there is a problem: hemp is illegal in many countries of the world. This plant, so useful for fiber, rope, oil, fuel and textiles, is a species related to the plant from which marijuana(大 麻) is produced. In fact, marijuana cannot be produced from the hemp plant, since it contains almost no THC (the active ingredient in the drug).? In recent years, a movement for legalization has been gathering strength. It is concerned only with the hemp plant used to produce fiber; this group wants to make it legal to grow the plant and sell the fiber for production.? 67. Why is pulp and paper production important to Canada? ? A. Hemp is a traditional plant of Canada. B. Canada publishes a lot of newspapers and books. C. Canada needs to find a way to use all its spare wood.? D. Pulp and paper export is a major source of income for Canada.? 68. Why was the plant hemp essential to world-wide trade in the past? ? A. Ships’ ropes were made from it.? B. Hemp was a very profitable export.? C. Hemp was used as fuel for ships.? D. Hemp was used as food for sailors.? 69. Why do agriculturalists think that hemp would be better for paper production than trees? ? A. Hemp produces higher quality paper.? B. It causes less pollution of the environment. C. It is cheaper to grow hemp than to cut down trees.? D. More paper can be produced from the same area of land. 70. Why was hemp banned in many countries of the world? A. It was destructive to the land. B. It was no longer a useful crop. C. It is related to the marijuana plant. D. It can be used to produce marijuana.

As the bar chart shows, about 35% of the students insist that the choice should be based on their own interest. They say interest is the way leading to success. They think it a miserable thing to be obliged to study what they have no interest in. About 45% of the students， however， consider it is the need of the society that matters a lot， for， they say， it will help them find a good job. In addition， interest can be developed and changed. Interestingly， there are about 20% of the students who find it so difficult to make a choice that they prefer to follow the advice offered by their parents or teachers. As for me， the best choice is of course a good major at a good university. If we cannot obtain both, the first thing to consider is a good major, because no matter where we study, we can still achieve a lot in a certain field if we try our best. 听力录音稿： Text 1 M: Excuse me, Madam. Where were you and your husband when the accident happened? W: I was standing on the corner, and my husband was over there waiting for a friend. Text 2 W: It’s already 6: 35, but our school bus hasn’t arrived. M: Don’t worry. It will come in 16 minutes. Text 3 M: How about going ice-skating tomorrow night? W: Gee, I’m not really too crazy about ice-skating. But do you like roller-skating? M: Sure, would you like to do that tomorrow? W: Yeah. That’d be fun but I’m not good at it. M: Don’t worry. Neither am I. Text 4 W: Look, it says they want a junior sales manager and it seems like it’s a big company. That’ll be good, you might have to travel a lot. M: Do they say anything about the experience? W: Er, let me see. Text 5 M: Hi. I’d like two chicken burgers and one spicy strawberry salad. W: OK. And what would you like to drink? M: Can I have just a cup of water? W: Sure. Anything else? M: No. W: 26.5 please. M: Here it is. W: Thank you. Salad will be served at the table in two minutes. Text 6 M: Annie, come with me for a moment, would you? W: What do you want? M: That didn’t sound like you. W: I don’t know, John. I feel run down, again. I didn’t mean to get so upset at Fred· M: He didn’t deserve it.
W: I know. I regret what I said. I have been working too hard. I’m beat. M: We’ve been through this before, Annie. It’s not just the hard work. You’ve let your health deteriorate. You have to relax more, do something fun to ease the pressure. W: Yeah, my health sucks. I feel like an old woman, sometimes. My body is exhausted. M: Don’t neglect your health any more, Annie. Do something about it, for your sake. W: I will. No more of this for me. Text 7 W: I’m really sorry to have spilt the coffee on your trousers· M: It’s OK. These are not my favorite pants. W: I would break my rod if I sat about for hours getting nothing. M: Oh, look at that man’s pole. It’s bent like a bow. There must be a huge fish on the end of the line. Let’s go over and have a look. W: OK. Wow, what a big fish! M: So it is interesting to fish with a rod sitting at the lake. Say, what do you often do in your spare time? W: Oh, nothing special. M: Well, you know crash dieting is not an advisable way to lose weight. W: Oh, I’ve been eating OK. M: If this keeps up, your boyfriend may have to tell everyone his girlfriend is a bag of bones. W: Well, maybe that’s better than saying I’m as fat as a pig. M: Seriously, is there something wrong? W: I don’t know. Perhaps it’s the job, the stress. M: Maybe you should go to see a doctor, to be safe. W: I think I’11 do that. Well, have a good day, John. M: You too, Karen. Take it easy! Text 10 I suppose science has made big steps in making food more fit to eat. However, it has also made many foods unfit to eat. Why? About 80％0f human illnesses are related to food and 40％of cancer is related to food. That food is related to illness is a new discovery. For example, things commonly used to keep color in meat and other food additives cause cancer. Also, farmers often give some medicine to their animals. So, the medicine can be found in the milk of treated cows. Some farmers try to fatten the animals in order to get a higher price on the market. Don’t you think it is terrible?
