B Anger is good for you, as long as you control it, according to new psychology research. A new study from Carnegie Mellon University shows anger may help people reduce the negative impacts of stress and help you become healthier. ―Here getting emotional is not bad for you if you look at the case of anger,‖ said Jennifer Lerner of Carnegie Mellon. ―The more people display anger, the lower their stress responses.‖ Lerner studied 92 UCLA students by asking them to count back from 6,200. They must say out loud every thirteenth number. Researchers disturbed them by asking them to count faster or ask them other questions. If they made any mistakes, they had to restart from the very beginning. Many students felt depressed about making so many mistakes or got angry. Lerner used a hidden video camera and recorded all their facial expressions during the test. The researchers describe their reactions as fear, anger and disgust. Other researchers recorded the students’ blood pres sure, pulse and production of a high-stress hormone（荷尔蒙）called cortisol. People whose faces showed more fear during the experiment had higher blood pressure and higher levels of the hormone. Both can have lasting effects such as diabetes（糖尿病）, heart disease, depression and extra weight gain.
When people feel fear, negative impacts increase, but when they get angry, those negatives go down, according to the study. ―Having that sense of anger leads people to actually feel some power in what otherwise is a maddening（令人发狂的）situation,‖ Lerner said. Lerner previously studied Americans’ emotional response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks two months after the incident. She found people who reacted with anger were more optimistic. These people are healthier compared with those who were frightened during the event. So in maddening situations, anger is not a bad thing to have. It’s a healthier response than fear. 61. What is the story mainly about? A. What you can do with anger in certain cases. research. C. Different effects produced by anger and fear. situations. 62. Which statement will Jennifer Lerner agree with? A. Different reactions reflect different outlooks on life. B. It’s better to be angry than to be frightened. C. A. Fear and anger. cortiso1. 64. In what ways can anger be beneficial to people? A. By reducing their stress. C. By reducing high blood pressure. A. recording their performance secretly again C. criticizing them when they made mistakes D. disturbing them and making them start all over again C Five years ago, David Smith wore an expensive suit to work every day. ―I was a clothes addict,‖ he jokes. ―I used to carry a fresh suit to work with me so I could change if my clothes got wrinkled.‖ Today David wears casual clothes—khaki pants and sports shirt—to the office. He hardly ever wears a necktie. ―I’m working harder than ever,‖ David says, ―and I need to feel comfortable.‖ More and more companies are allowing their office workers to wear casual clothes to work. In the United States, the change from formal to casual office wear has been gradual. In the early 1990s, many companies allowed their employees to wear casual clothes on Friday, but only on Friday. This became known as ―dress-down Friday‖ or ―casual Friday‖. ―What started out as an extra one-day-a-week benefit for employees has really become an everyday thing.‖ said business B. By showing their optimistic side. D. By taking the place of fear. B. asking them to count to 6, 200 again and B. Blood pressure and pulse. D. Blood pressure and C. 65. The researchers irritated（激怒）the students by __________.
consultant Maisly Jones. Why have so many companies started allo wing their employees to wear casual clothes? One reason is that it’s easier for a company to attract new employees if it has a casual dress code. ―A lot of young people don’t want to dress up for work,‖ says the owner of a software company, ―so it’s hard to hire people if you have a conservative dress code.‖ Another reason is that people seem happier and more productive when they are wearing comfortable clothes. In a study conducted by Levi Strauss Company, 85 percent of employers said that they believe that casual dress improves employee morale（士气）. Only 4 percent of employers said that casual dress has a negative effect on productivity. Supporters of casual office wear also argue that a casual dress code helps them save money. ―Suits are expensive, if you have to wear one every day,‖ one person said. ―For the same amount of money, you can buy a lot more casual clothes.‖ 66. David Smith refers to hims elf as having been ―a clothes addict,‖ because __________. A. making employees more attractive C. improving employees’ motivation B. saving employees’ money D. making employees happier D In the US and Britain, the slogan around colleges was ―Save water. Shower with a friend.‖ Now, Wuhan University has come up with another system for the campus bathhouse. It charges students for the amount of time in a shower. Before entering the bathhouse, students pay for the amount of time they want in the shower with cash or their student ID card. The clock starts ticking the minute, the tape is turned on. It pauses when a button is pressed for soap. An integrated circuit B. they make him feel at ease when
(IC) card reader at each tap shows the time. No money, no water. The benefits of the new system can be seen with the old system, which charged 1 Yuan for each person regardless of time in the shower. The university used about 320 tons of water daily under the old system, but only 160 tons now. Many students use the new system but opinions on it are divided. Some students say it is bad because bathing had become a sort of race. Many people using it for the first time are not sure how long they need to shower. Some might be embarrassed if their time is up and they’re still covered in soap. They have to ask the bathhouse worker to help them buy extra time. ―It’s a flaw in the system that you can not buy extra time on the ID card,‖ said Ren, a freshman in Wuhan University. The university is also considering some students’ suggestions that they be allowed to pay after they’ve finished the shower. Not surprisingly, some are complaining about losing the hour shower. But many students say the move helps them develop a water-saving sense. Without the time limits, most students tended to shower for 30 to an hour in the bathhouse. Some even used the hot water to wash their clothes. ―In my experience, 10—20 minutes is enough,‖ said Dai Zhihua, a third-year student who usually takes 8 minutes. A similar system has been installed in other universities. Shanghai Normal University introduced it at its Fengxiang Campus in September. The bathing fee there is 0.2 Yuan per minute. One male student responded by setting a record with a two-minute shower. 71. According to the passage, which of the following is NOT true? A. Students pay for the amount of time they want in the shower. B. The clock times all through while the student is bathing except when the bather paused for soap. C. Having finished bathing, the student has to pay for it. D. If money runs out, there will be no water. A. advantage A. a quarter B. fault B. one third

It should be admitted that some young people like Li yuchun has stood out from the numerous attendants, but that doesn’t mean attending the shows is a good way to become successful for young people．The following reasons can support my view．Firstly, some young people hunt after fame at whatever cost．Secondly, TV shows can subvert the youngsters’ values． They think attending the shows is a shortcut to the success, so they may despise the way of achieving success by hard work．Finally, if the young people fail in these shows, they will suffer a psychological unbalance. In a word, entering for TV shows is not a good way for young people to make a success．I suggest young people should think twice before deciding to attend shows.

I mean, t hey hunted for their food and grew their own vegetables and did things for themselves. We do the same sort of job for years and years. There’s no variety in our lives. W: You need a holiday. That’s what’s the matter with you. Text 7 M: Have you seen Kate recently, Vicky? W: Yes, I have. I saw her a couple of days ago. She hasn’t been very well in the last couple of weeks. M: Has she seen a doctor since she’s been ill? W: Yes, she has. The doctor told her to take it easy for a while, but she hasn’t t been taking his advice. She’s as busy as usual. M: Do you think it useful for me to ask her to have a rest when I go to see her? Or shall we go together? W: I think you can go yourself and show your concern to her since she sometimes would take your advice. So it’ s unnecessary for me to go with you. What’s more, I’ve got some other things to do at the moment. Text 8 W: Good morning. This is Burt’s Bicycle Rental.
M: Good morning. A friend of mine suggested I call out to hire some bikes. W: Oh, yes, a lot of people do so these days. M: Yes, we’re just on holiday here for a few days and they said it would be a good idea to see the island by bike. W: Well, it certainly is. And most people rent a motorbike because you can get around faster and even go to the beach if you like. M: If I wanted to hire two motorbikes tomorrow morning for two days, would there be any problem? W: None at all. May I have your name, please? M: It’s Green, Arthur Green. W: And your telephone number? M: I’m at the Holiday Sun Hotel. My number is 0708112.I’m in room 1203. By the way, is your bike rental shop at No. 100 Teckman Street? W: That’ s right. M: OK, then. I’ll see you tomorrow morning. W: Bye. Till then. Text 9 W: Can I talk to you for a moment, Tom? M: Of course, Julia. Sit down. What is it? W: I’ve decided to leave. M: leave? W: Yes. M: Oh, no. Is it because we are moving out of London? W: Well, yes. But there are some other reasons.
