A Trip On “ The True North”

Teaching goals 1. Ability goals a. Learn how to describe the places that Li Daiyu and Liu Qian visit in Canada. b. Enable the students to understand the details of the passage about Canada. 2. Learning ability goals a. Improve the students’ reading ability-guessing words, searching for information. b. Learn the information about Canada. c. Master the expressions for describing directions and locations. Teaching important points a. Learn the methods of writing a traveling report about. b. Learn to read the traveling report according to the traveling route. Teaching methods a. Skimming and scanning; b. Asking-and-answering activities; c. Listening method. Teaching aids A computer, a projector and a tape recorder. Teaching procedures & ways Step 1 Lead-in

1. Enjoy “The National Anthem of Canada”. 2. Have a quiz. Step 2 Fast Reading Get Ss to read the passage quickly and answer the following questions: 1) What is “The True North”? 2) Draw the route of the two girls traveling across Canada.

Step 3 Careful- reading: Read the text carefully and finish the following exercises: a. Find out what these numbers refer to? 5,500;a few hundred;thirty; one-third b. Answer the question: What do you know about each city? Vancouver ; Calgary; Thunder Bay: Step 4 Feedback quiz Listen to the tape. Try to answer the questions and choose the best answer. Step 5 Consolidation Fill in the blank and retell the story Step 6 Discussion

( If time is not permitted, get the students to do it after class.) If you have enough money, which places do you want to go eagerly in China? Homework: 1. Read the text carefully again and finish Ex1 on P36.
2. Recite the words in Unit4.
