Reading and Vocabulary Philosophers of Ancient China

学情分析 高中一年级学生的认知能力比初中阶段有了进一步的发展, 渐渐形成用英语获 取信息、处理信息、分析问题和解决问题的能力,因此我特别注重提高学生用英 语进行思维和表达的能力。在教学过程中,布置的任务要兼顾各个层次的学生, 使他们都有所收获。 教材分析 本节的精读课学生可读到中国古代的三位哲学家,他们是孔子、孟子和墨子。 这些哲学家们在中国的历史和文化中举足轻重。通过本节的学习,学生可了解一 些与他们的生平和哲学理论。同时还可训练阅读技巧如速读和查读。 三维目标 1、知识与技能 1)Learn some useful words and expressions. 2) Learn some information about great people in China. 3) Enhance students’ reading ability and develop their skills of guessing words. 2、过程与方法 1) Students are expected to know more about great people in ancient China through reading. 2)Encourage students to learn something from these philosophers. 3、情感与价值 Students will have a better understanding of great people in ancient China through the study of this period. 教学重点 1、Students are encouraged to have better of understanding of the passage. 2、Learn and master some important words and phrases in this period. 教学难点 1、 How to help students to understand the passage better. 2、 How to master the important points in this passage.

教学方法 1、Skimming to get the general information of the passage. 2、Scanning to get specific information of the passage. 3、Co-operative learning; Task-based teaching and learning. 教学过程 Step1 Leading in (3minutes) Show the pictures of great people.Can you guess what we will learn? Confucius Mencius Mozi [设计意图] 学生通过看图片非语言信息预测文章为进一步阅读做好铺垫,同时 也激发了学生的学习兴趣。 Step2 Pre-reading (5minutes)

work in groups of four. Say what you know about Confucius,Mencius and Mozi Suggested answer: Confucius: The family is important.We are members of a group. Mencius:Man is born good. Mozi: Mozi didn’t agree with war. [设计意图] 培养学生整理分析、归纳总结的能力以及与同学合作、分享、交流 与探究的能力。 Step3 While-reading (12minutes)

(1)Skimming: Let students read the passage by themselves.Then finish activity1 individually. Show activity1 on the screen. Suggested answers: 1 principle 2 found 3 belief 4 order 5 bing up (2) Scanning: Let students read the passage again and finish activity2 on the screen.Then pair work. Show activity2 on the screen. Suggested answers: 1 stressed 2 position 3 following someone’s opinion

[设计意图] 让学生在限定时间里尽快掌握课文;培养学生查找、处理信息的能 力,训练阅读微技能,并培养自主学习、合作、探究的能力。 Step4 Intensive reading. Then finish activity3. Show activity3 on the screen. (3) But it was also a time(时期) when there were many great philosophers. (4) Confucius stressed the importance of kindness,duty and order in society. [设计意图] 排除一些理解障碍,启发思考。 Step6 Listen to the passage and pay more attention to the intonation. (8minutes) [设计意图] 在提高阅读能力的同时,留意语调,并进一步加深对文章的理解。 Step7 Summary (5minutes) (3minutes)

You have learned 3great philosophers from ancient China in this period. Their philosophy had great influence on the history and culture of China. So it’s of great importance for you to get more information about them. [设计意图] 在教学过程中自然渗透情感教育,贴近生活实际,使学生进入教学 情境,进入角色,从而使本课主题在教与学中得到升华。 Step8 Homework (2minutes)

Discussion: Why were there so many philosophers existing in Ancient China? [设计意图] 小组讨论完成作业,提高学生和同伴合作、交流、分享与探究的能 力。 Step9 教学反思
