Period 1 Welcome to the unit Teaching Objectives:
1) Get students to conduct a free discussion about ancient civilizations. 2) Encourage the

students to share their ideas with each other.

Important points and difficult points:
1) Students are expected to describe what they have known about the ancient civilizations. 2) Encourage the students to communicate with classmates.

Teaching procedures: Step1 Lead in
In these years ,there are many hot TV series or shows , such as 《宫》 《步步惊心》 ,these TV series are based on ancient history. They are all 穿越剧。 If you had a Space and Time machine, where and when would you want to go?why? 学生自由发挥 In ancient time, china is a well-known country, do you know,the Four Great ancient civilizations? what were they ? And what were the countries famous for? Old China< India<numbers:1,2,3````> How about The seven wonders of the world What are they ? Pyramids The Statue of Zeus The Hanging Gardens

Step3 Talking about the pictures
The Statue of Zeus: Zeus is the greatest god of ancient Greece Mythology(神话). The Statue of Zeus, sculpted by a great Greek artist in about 435 BC,Where was the Statue of Zeus once located? (On the western coast of Greece) The Taj Mahal: Who built it? (Shah Jehan, the fifth Mughal Emperor.) For whom and why was it built? (It was built by Shah Jehan for his beloved wife as a monument of eternal love.) When was it built? (From 1631 to 1648) The Potala Palace: Where is it located? (On the Red Hill in the Lhasa Valley of Tibet, China) When was it rebuilt? (In the 17th century) What was it used as? (The residence of the Dalai Lamas since the 7th century, as well as the religious and political centre of old Tibet) The city of pompeii 1. Where was the city of Pompeii? In ancient Rome, now Italy. 2. When was the city founded? It was founded in the 8th century BC. 3. Why did the city of Pompeii disappear? It was buried because the volcano.

The city of Pompeii was found in the 8th century BC. In 89 BC, the Romans took over Pompeii. It then became a rich and busy city. Near the city was a volcano. On 24 August AD 79, the volcano erupted 爆发 and lava 熔岩, ash 灰烬 and rocks poured out of it onto the surrounding countryside. Many people were buried alive, and so was the city.
