Unit 3 Looking good, feeling good

Thoughts on the design:
本节课是以语言点教学为主的语言实践课。从语言教学的出发点来看,培养学生阅读 理解能力与掌握基础知识是紧密联系、 相辅相成的, 因为最终目的都是培养学生的综合语言 应用能力。本课结合语篇语境讲授语言点,选取适当

例句以增加课堂的趣味性;通过口头、 笔头练习,强化课本中的语言点,做到精讲多练。对于重要的或较难的语言点,设计反复性 练习,以强化记忆,扩展思维。充分调动学生的学习积极性,灵活地增删教材,采用有效教 学手段,开展生动活泼的、有交际意义的、以学生为主体的语言实践活动。

Teaching aims:
After learning this part, the students will be able to raise their reading abilities by focusing on language points and grasp the new usage of some important words and phrases in the text through language practice.

Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Lead-in
Review the previous period by letting the students discuss the following question in groups: What do you think is the best way for teenagers to keep healthy? Suggested key phrases for their reference: ● going on a diet ● taking exercise regularly ● enough sleep ● healthy diet ● receiving surgical treatment ● taking weight-loss pills ● be confident … [Explanation] 提出“青少年保持健康的最佳方式”这一话题让学生展开讨论,复习已经学过的课文并 引入本课的重点—语言点的学习。

Step 2 Language points
1. be dying to do sth. (=be very eager to do sth.) 1) 她渴望见到你。 She is dying to see you. 2) 曾经一时,许多年轻人渴望出国。 There was a time when many young people were dying to go abroad. be dying for sth. (=be thirsty/eager for sth.)

They are dying for a slim figure. People there are thirsty for freedom. He is eager for success. 2. used to do (=did repeatedly in the past) 表示与现在相反的过去某种习惯,意为“过去常常” 。如: 1) 我过去常常起床很早并且在早餐前散步一小时。 I used to get up early and take an hour's walk before breakfast. 2) 过去在山顶有一座寺庙吗? Used there to /Did there use to be a temple on top of the hill? 3) 你父亲曾经喝很多酒,是不是? Your father used to drink a lot, didn’t / usedn’t he? Compare: be used to doing sth./sth. (=be accustomed to sth./doing sth 习惯于) be used to do sth. (被用于做) 3. work out (=engage in an exercise/solve/develop in a good way 可译为“进行锻炼、计算出、 (情况等)发展??”) 1) Amy keeps fit by working out in the gym every day. Amy 通过每天在体育馆锻炼来保持健康。 2) Can you work out the answer for me? 你能为我计算出答案吗? 3) We didn’t plan it like this but it worked out very well. 我们并没计划这样,但结果竟然很好。 4. be ashamed of (=feel embarrassed or guilty) 1) 他对自己的失败感到惭愧。 He is ashamed of his failure. be ashamed that .../be ashamed to do 2) 他很惭愧他撒了谎。 He is ashamed that he has lied. 3) 我不好意思告诉我父母我考试不及格。 I am too ashamed to tell my parents that I have failed the exam. 5. recover (=return to a normal state of health/ regain possession of) 指恢复(健康)、补偿(损失)、挽回(失物)等。 He recovered his sight after the operation. Has the manager recovered from the shock yet? We soon rearranged our plan and recovered our losses. 6. contain (=have or hold) 1) 那个盒子里装着我的回忆。 That box contains my memories. 2) 这些食物里脂肪含量都太高了。 The food contains too much fat. 3) 他们有很多宠物, 猫就有三只。 They have many pets, including three cats. 7. worth (=having a certain value/deserve to be) adj. 值得, 值(多少钱)

be worth doing 值得做?? 1) 这栋房子值很多钱。 The house is worth a lot of money. 2) 这篇文章值得读。 The article is worth reading. 8. be embarrassed about (=feel awkward or ashamed) 对??感到难为情/困窘不安 1) 他仍对他所做的事感到很尴尬。 He was still quite embarrassed about what he had done. 2) 我对在公众场合说英语感到尴尬。 I am embarrassed about speaking English in public. 9. as you are 是 as 引导的方式状语从句。意思是“照你现状,照你原样” 。 1) 不必改变自己—你这样就很好。 You don’t have to change yourself —you are fine just as you are. 2) 你应该随遇而安。 You must take things as they are. [Explanation] 结合语篇语境讲授语言点,将主要词汇、短语和句型以语句的形式在课件中呈现,并注 意使选取的例句具有较强的示范功能。

Step 3 Practice

The pictures on the website are worth a look. 5. You should be ashamed of your foolish behavior. 6. Take my advice and leave it as it is. II. Complete the following spelling: 1. [Explanation] 让学生记住一些有关保持健康的英语谚语, 不仅能极大地激发学生的英语学习兴趣, 提 高他们的学习效果,同时也能陶冶他们的情操,使其获得一定的思想教育。

Step 5 Homework
1. Read the text again to get a better understanding. 2. Finish Part A1, A2 on page 94. 3. Recite the new words and phrases of Reading. 4. Preview the Word Power.
