The central government has asked people entering China from the virus-hit countries to report flu-like symptoms（症状）to the authorities(当局). In an emergency notice issued on Saturday night，the country’s top quality watchdog (监督部门)ordered the Customs to check passengers’ temperature，too. A Beijing airport official Li said Customs officers are on a high alert（警戒）level. “Three temperature detectors(检出器) are now in operation. We’re ready with protection garments and equipment，too. Passengers flying in from Mexico and other A／H1N1 flu-hit countries are being monitored closely， ”he said. The Ministry of Health，however，said yesterday there was no evidence to suggest that a person would contract(感染) the disease by eating pork. Hong Kong，too，has raised its alert level against the flu to “serious”. Secretary for Food ＆Health，Mr. York Chow urged people to avoid visiting places from where A／H1N1 flu cases have been reported，and said the virus would be added to Hong Kong’s list of the diseases which
have been noticed. The terrible A／H1 N1 flu has been contracted by about 4000 people in Mexico，and most of the killed were aged between 25 and 45. The virus has also infected about 5000 people in the US. The US Center for Disease Control said this kind of virus is spreading from human to human，raising fears of a global pandemic. 61. What is the passage mainly about? A. A／H1N1 flu killed more than 80 people. B. A／H1N1 flu is spreading from human to human. C. China has begun to take steps to prevent A／H1N1 flu. D. Because it has infected about 5，000 people. 64. According to the passage，which of the following is TRUE? A. People would contract the A／H1N1 flu if they often eat pork. B. The virus of the A／H1N1 flu has infected people all over the world. C. People from A／H1N1 flu—hit countries are all forbidden to enter China. D. People should avoid visiting places where A／H1N1 flu cases have been reported from. 65. We can infer from the passage that_______. A. Students in the middle school are most likely infected by A/H1N1 flu. B. A person would be infected by the virus by eating pork. C. Passengers from the United States are being monitored closely in Beijing. D. Mr. York Chow said that the virus had been added to Hong Kong’s list of the diseases.
B Third-generation mobile phones, known as 3G, are the next big step for the telecom(电信) industry. Data speed in 3G networks is much quicker than that in present technology. This means users can have high-speed Internet access(上网) and enjoy video and CD-quality music on their phones. "Mobile data is not a dream; it's not an option(选择) but a requirement" said Len Lauer, head of a US communications company, Sprint PCS, at a 3G conference in Bangkok earlier this month. With 3G, you can forget about text messages telling you yesterday's news; a 3G phone can receive video news programs, updated(更新) four times a day. Internet access will also be much quicker, making it easier to surf the Web on your phone than on your computer at home. Don't worry about getting lost. 3G phones offer map services so you can find a new restaurant just by pressing a few keys on your h andset(手持机). However, the most impressive part of 3G technology is video calling. With live two-way video communication, you can have face-to-face talks with friends and family on your mobile phone. Many European countries have already launched the service. In May 2000 the US Government issued five licenses(许可证) to run 3G wireless services, while the first 3G phones arrived in Italy in March this year. International telecom companies can't wait to sell 3G in China, the world's largest mobile telecommunications market. But they will have to be patient. At the moment, China is busy testing its 3G-based technologies, networks and services. This will be followed by a trial period before the phones can finally hit the shops. “We need to create a pool of 3G customers before the large-scale commercial launch(开始) of the service,” said Fan Yunjun, marketing manager for Beijing Mobile. “We expect that the 3G licenses will be issued(发行) late next year.” We'll also see 3G services enter our daily lives in all-sorts of new ways, from shopping and banking to playing interactive computer games over the net. It won't be long before we think nothing of sitting on a train using a mobile palmtop(掌上型电脑) to check our bank accounts or pay bills. You might even click on an icon(图标) on the screen to set up an immediate video-conference with your bank clerk.

75. Which is true about Laura Malagon? A. Laura Malagon is a member of an active parents’ group in Fairview Elementary School B. Laura Malagon didn’t play an active role in her children’s school life before. C. He is among Parents with a voice in Fairview Elementary School. D. Parents with a voice disallows Laura Malagon to play a more active role in her children’s school life D Awareness(意识) Weeks have become a regular part of Britain’s cultural landscape(风景) over the past few years. They started back in 1957, when one charity(慈善机关或团体), Christian Aid , decided to make all its money-raising efforts on one time of year . It was thought that by doing this they would get more publicity for their cause. They were right , and soon other charities and campaign groups followed them. These days, most donations(捐款) to charity are not collected on the streets. So instead of just asking for money, charities prefer to spend their time “ raising awareness” —— spreading knowledge of the work they do or the cause they support . They also compete with businesses and trade groups who use awareness weeks as marketing campaigns for their products. There are now 500 awareness weeks held every year in the UK. No week goes by without one group or another trying to make the British public aware of something, with most held in May or October. The danger with all these awareness weeks is that people start to become cynical(不信任). Take National Smile Week as an exa mple, which seems like a great idea．Let’s all make each other’s life a little bit happier with a friendly smile. But really it’s just a group of dentists(牙医) and cosmetics(化妆品)companies trying to sell us toothpaste（牙膏）. It’s enough to make you want to start National Forget About It Week. “People feel that many awareness campai gns are just marketing exercises,” says Ms Ormiston, who edits the Awareness Campaign Register, a news letter which encourages people who run Awareness Weeks to become more aware of each other. “But 90 per cent of campaigns are run by traditional charities or not for groups to make money.” “There’s still no official group for awareness campaigns,” says Ms Ormiston. “People can do what they like, whatever the size of their budgets(预算) or their public relations machines allows.” This situation has led to calls for laws to stop real charities having their efforts overshadowed(被笼罩的) by marketing campaigns. This could be done by making the two groups hold their weeks at different times or stopping businesses running imitation charity campaigns. But there is another way. Maybe it’s time for National Weak Awareness Week, especially for people whose awareness of Awareness Weeks is weak. 76．What’s the main purpose of awareness weeks run by charities in Britain? A．To raise money for charities. B．To spread knowledge of charities and businesses. C．To take up marketing campaigns.D．To advertise their goods for sale. 77．Why do people start to become cynical about awareness weeks? A．Too many awareness weeks make people feel bored. B．People feel many awareness weeks are just for marketing exercises. C．People have a strong awareness of awareness weeks. D．Awareness weeks are held too often and too much money is raised. 78．What does Ms Ormiston think about awareness weeks? A．Most of the awareness weeks should not be for making money. B．O fficial groups have taken the place of charities in awareness campaigns. C．People can do whatever they like in awareness weeks. D．People can get the largest budgets through awareness campaigns. 79．Which of the following is the right measure to be taken to solve the problems in awareness campaigns? A．Laws should stop awareness weeks run by real charities. B．There should be large public relations departments in awareness campaigns. C．Business and awareness campaigns should not be held at the same place. D．Marketing campaigns should not be in the name of charity ones. 80．What’s the writer’s view on Awareness Weeks? A．National Forget About It Week should be held to stop awareness weeks. B．National Smile Week is a great idea to improve people’s life. C．National Weak Awareness Week can help people better understand awareness weeks. D．Awareness Weeks should be stopped because of marketing campaigns.

All scientists subscribe to the view that the increase in the earth's temperature was due to the burning of fossil fuels like coal and oil to produce energy. Some byproducts of this process are called "greenhouse" gases, the most important one of whom is carbon dioxide. Dr Janice Foster explains: "There is a natural phenomena that scientists call the 'greenhouse effect'. This is when small quantities gases in the atmosphere, like carbon dioxide, methane and water vapour, trap heat from sun and therefore warm the earth. Without the 'greenhouse effect', the earth would be about thirty-three degrees Celsius cool than it is. So that we need those gases. The problem begins when we add huge numbers of extra carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. It means that more heat energy tends to be trapping in the atmosphere causing the global temperature to go down."
