Body Language Good afternoon, teachers. I am number xx. Today it’s my great honor to have an opportunity to talk about some of my teaching ideas. My topic is Body language, which just taken from Senior English for China Student’s Book 4 Unit 4. I’ll prepare to say this lesson from six parts. (一) Analysis of the Teaching Material. This lesson is a reading passage. It plays a very important part in the English teaching of this unit. By studying of this lesson, the Students can improve their reading ability; learn more about that body language in different countries and different cultures says different meanings. This passage mainly describes some greetings in European and Asian countries. In this passage, we should help the students get some knowledge about the different ways to communicate with others. At the same time, we should get the students to understand some difficult sentences and comprehend the passage better. (二)Analysis of the students The Students are lack of vocabulary. They don’t often use English to express themselves and communicate with others. They are not active in the class because they are afraid of making mistakes. (三) I would like to talk about teaching aims and demands Knowledge aims: Let the Students know body language varies from culture to culture. Make the Ss understand the cultural background contained by body language. Ability aim: Train the Students’ reading ability, such as fast reading skill, intensive reading skill. Cultivate students' English expression ability Moral aim: Via studying this lesson, the Students should know the cultures are not the same, and know how to respect the different cultures. (四) Teaching key points and difficult points key point : make the Students master the gestures given in the text. Difficult point: deeper understanding of the different cultures contained by the body language. (五) Teaching methods and Teaching aids Teaching method: Question-and-answer activity teaching method. Watch-and-listen activity teaching method. Free discussion method Pair work or individual work method. Teaching aids: 1. a tape recorder 2. Multimedia 3. The blackboard (六)Teaching procedures: I have designed the following steps to train their ability of listening, speaking, reading, especially reading ability. Step 1 lead-in and preparation Show them the pictures about greetings in different countries, and let them describe

the actions in their own words. The purpose is to arouse the students’ interest of Body Language. Therefore, I can bring in the new course “Body language and non-verbal communication”. Step 2 Listening First, I will ask students to close their book before listening. After listening, I will ask students do T or F exercise on page 26. It can train the Students listening ability and prepare for later exercises. Step 3 Fast reading Read the passage as quickly as they can, and then let them tell me the topic sentence of each paragraph. The purpose is to improve the students reading ability; understand the general idea of each paragraph. Step 4 Intensive reading Read the passage carefully again and answer some detailed questions on the screen. 1 Give some examples to show people are not aggressive when they greet strangers. 2 What does "salaam" mean? 3 How do we make "give me five"? It is also called depth reading or study reading. It means reading for detailed information. I think it can help students further understand the text to find out some details of the text. Step5 Consolidation Retell the passage according to the topic sentences. Because I want to know if my students understand the whole text really and if they master what I mean to tell them in class. What’s more, I want to let them have the ability of introducing and analyzing expression. Step6 Discussion Give them a topic: If you go to a party where there is an American/Muslim friend, hoe will you communicate with him or her? I want to make them realize: It is important to know different gestures in different countries. Step 7 Homework Let the students make a dialogue about different greetings and then act them. I want to let them master the passage better. At the same time, train their ability of do-it-yourself. Blackboard design In my opinion, the blackboard design can reflect the teacher’s ability of mastering the text and leading the Students to master the text easily. I will write the topic sentences which concluded by students in the middle of the blackboard and important and difficult phrases on the left of the blackboard and the language structures on the right of the blackboard in order to tell the Students that this is of the importance in this class.
