Module Four

A Social Survey—My Neighbourhood Period One

Teaching content:
Introduction; Reading and Vocabulary

Teaching important points:
1.Encourage the students to talk about buildings; 2.Help the students make sense of the whole passage; 3.Help the students to improve their reading ability.

Teaching difficult points:
1.Lead the students to talk in class actively; 2.Deal with some difficult language points.

Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Lead-in and Introduction In the past,most people live in the countryside,but with the development of society more and more people move to the city,including some of you.First let`s review some words about the countryside and the city. village, countryside, town, suburb, apartment(AE)/flat(BE), block, community, neighbourhood This module,we`ll talk about our neighbourhood.Now,please turn to P31 to learn more words about this topic. 1.Activity1 on P31. 2.Activity2 on P31. 3.Activity3 on P31.(It can be assigned as home work.) Ask the students to write some sentences describing their homes after the example and then ask some of them to present their work to the class. Step 2 Pre-reading Next we`ll listen to the tape about Xiao Li`s hometown and choose the correct answers.(Activity1 on P33) Step 3 Reading 1.Activity2 on P33 2.Explain some language points.(Ref: Notes to the text.) 3.Read through the text carefully again to understand it better. Step 4 Consolidation [Finish Activity3-4 not referring the text to test how much the students can remember about the text after reading.] 4.Activity3. 5.Activity4. Step 5 Summary and Homework

1.Summary: Summarize what they have learned in this period. 2.Homework: Reading on P87-88 in workbook. Appendix: Notes to the text
1. It’s been six years since we last saw each other. 自从我们上次见面已经有 6 年了。 It is /has been +一段时间+since +过去式( 瞬时动词 ) 自从……至今已经多久了 It is /has been +一段时间+since +过去式 (延续性动词) 自从不做…至今已经多久了/已经有多久不做… eg: It has been three years since he joined the army. It’s two years since her husband died. It’s two years since he lived there. 他有两年没住在这儿了。

It’s three weeks since he smoked. 他有三周没抽烟了。 2.And this is the first time I’ve visited your hometown. 这是我第一次来你的家乡。 This/That/It is the first /second…/last time (that) …这是某人第几次做某事。that 引导定语从句,常省略。 主句用 is, 从句使用现在完成时。主句用 was , 从句用过去完成时。 eg: This is the third time this week that he has been late for work. That was the last time that he had seen her. 3. So they tell me. 他们就是这样告诉我的. “主语+动词+so / so+主语+动词”,意为某人这样做了 eg:They asked me to call them and so I did/I did so. 【*链接】 1) “so +主语+助动词/系动词/情态动词” ,意为:某人/某物确实是…… 2) “so +助动词/系动词/情态动词+主语” ,意为:某人/某物也是…… 3) “neither /nor+助动词/系动词/情态动词+主语”, 意为 某人/某物也不 4) It is the same with sb./sth. 或 So it is with sb./sth. 表示上述混合情况也适用该句主语. ① --- Tom has grown taller than before recently . Teaching content:
Grammar1; Listening and Vocabulary & Grammar2

Teaching important points:
1.Learn to research by cooperation and summarize the rules of the present perfect tense; 2.Help the students make full use of the present perfect tense to express themselves; 3.Help the students improve their speaking as well as listening ability.

Teaching difficult points:
1.Lead the students to be active in class;

Step 2 Grammar1 1.Review The Present Perfect Tense on P108-109. 2.Activity1 on P34. Suggested answers: 1),2)No,we don`t. 3)Yes,it is. 4)No,they didn`t. 5)Yes,it did. 6)6 years ago. 3.Activity2 on P34. [*Activity3 can be omitted.] Step 3 Listening and Vocabulary 1.Dealing with the vocabulary(Activity1 on P35) 2.Prediction Predict what the listening material is mainly about according the vocabulary in Activity1. 3.Listening and checking(Activity2 on P35) 4.Listening and getting details(Activity3 on P35) Listen and complete the chart;compare the answers;listen one more time to check. [*Activity4 can be omitted.] Step 4 Grammar2 1.Activity1 on P36 Suggested answers: 1),2) A 3),4)B 2.Activity2 on P36 Suggested answers: A(延续性动词 / Continuous Verb) know/live/remain/stay B(瞬时动词/Non-continuous Verb) borrow/buy/give/leave/open/put/send 3.Activity3 on P36 Fill; compare; read together. 4.Activity4 on P36 Read through to under the sentences; explain(pay attention to the phrases in bold); read aloud together. Teaching content:
Pronunciation; Everyday English & Function and Speaking

Teaching important points:
1.Encourage the students to read the sentences accurately and fluently; 2.Help the students make full use of everyday English freely; 3.Help the students improve their speaking ability.

Teaching difficult points:
1.Lead the students to talk in class actively; 2.Learn how to ask and show position and direction. 3.Develop the students` communicating skills by practicing the use of daily expressions.

Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Greetings and Revision 1.Greet the students as usual. 2.Check the homework in last period. Step 2 Pronunciation 1.Ask the students to read through this part to understand and underline the words they think will be stressed. 2.Listen to the tape carefully paying attention to the pronunciation and intonation,then check their answers. 3.Tell the students the rule of stress in sentences.(Just know about.) 4.Listen again to understand it better. Step 3 Everyday English 1.Read through this part and choose the correct answers. 2.Compare the answers and explain some difficult points. 3.Read through again to consolidate. Step 4 Function and Speaking 1.Read through and answer individually.(Activity1 on P38) 2.Ask some students to present their answers and then correct them. 3.Ask the students to read out the questions and answers together. 【*Activity2 on P38 can be omitted】 Step 5 Summary and Homework

1.Summary: Summarize what they have learned in this period. 2.Homework: Activity4,5 on P85-86 in workbook. Appendix: Notes to the text

Teaching important points:
1.Learn to research by cooperation; 2.Learn to make use of coordinate([k?u'? :dini/eit] adj. 同等的;并列的) conjunctions to make their writing more coherent([k?u'hi?r?nt] adj. 连贯的,一致的).

Teaching difficult points:
1.Lead the students to take an active part in class; 2.Describe their neighbourhood proficiently([pr?u'fi? ?nt] adj. 熟练的,精通的) with what they have learnt in this module.

Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Greetings and Revision 1.Greet the students as usual. 2.Check the homework in last period. Step 2 Writing 1.Read through the given sentences to understand. 2.Explain the meaning of and & but. 3.Complete the given paragraph with and or but on P37. Complete; compare answers and explain some language points; read through again to understand better.
