A Since I started working part-time at a grocery store, I ha

ve learned that a customer is more than someone who buys things. To me, a customer is a person whose memory fails entirely once he or she starts to push a shopping cart(车). One of the first things customers forget is how to count. There is no other way to explain how so many people get in their express line, which is clearly marked 15 items(件) or less, with 20, 25 or even a cart load of items. Customers also forget why they came to the store in the first place. Just as I finish ringing up an order, a customer will say, ― Oops, I forgot to pick up a fresh loaf of bread. I hope you don‘t mind waiting, while I go to get it.‖Five minutes later, he‘s back with the bread, a bottle of milk, and three rolls of paper towels. What is stranger is that customers also seem to forget that they have to pay for their groceries. Instead of writing a check or looking for a credit card while I am ringing up the groceries, a customer will wait until I announce the total. Then, in surprise, she says , ― Oh no, what did I do with my check book?‖ After 5 minutes of digging through her purse, she borrows my pen because she has forgotten hers. But I have to tolerate customers because they pay my salary, and that‘s something I can‘t afford to forget. 21. What does the author say about his customers? A .They can not count numbers. B. They sometimes jump the queue. C. They don‘t know how to express themselves. D. They behave as if their memories had totally failed. 22. According to the text, who are supposed to be in the express line? A Customers with nothing purchased. B. Customers with not more than 15 items. C. Customers with items between 15 and 25 23. When customers arrive at the check-out counter,they_______ A. find their pens lost B. go back and get more items C. can not wait to pay for their groceries. Music lessons in early childhood bring about changes in the brain that could improve its perfor mance far into adulthood, researchers say. Brain scans of young adults showed those who had formal musical training before seven had thic ker brain areas dealing with hearing and self-awareness . The findings note how brain development can be influenced by the age when children start to lea rn a musical instrument , and how those changes can continue into later life. "Early musical training benefits kids more than just making them enjoy music. It changes the bra in, which could bring about cognitive advances as well," said Yunxin Wang of Beijing Normal Un iversity. ―Our results suggest it‘s better to start musical training before seven, which agrees with what most piano teachers recommend,‖ she added. She hoped the results might help parents decide when was the best for their children to learn an instrument. The brain‘s cortex(皮层) plays a leading role in one‘s abilities, from thought and language to memory and attention. The area matures rapidly in the early years of life, and its development could be affected more if a person starts musical training before it fully matures. Wang studied 48 Chinese students aged between 19 and 21 who had received formal music training for at least a year sometime between the ages of 3 and 15. Each had a scan to measure the thickness of the brain‘s cortex. After considering sex and the number of years spent having music lessons, Wang found that musical training that started before seven appeared to thicken areas of the brain involved in language skills and executive function, which is a person‘s ability to plan and accomplish tasks. ―We‘re not sure why these changes occur, but a reasonable explanation is that early starters might depend more on hearing clues(线索) when learning music, since it might be more difficult for younger children to read music,‖ Wang said. 32. According to the researchers, musical training before the age of seven can _______________. A. contribute to future work. B. create a successful life C. develop all-round abilities D. deal with puzzling problem 33. When conducting the research with the students, Wang __________. A. tested their language abilities B. watched their musical performances C. focused on school behavior and achievements D. measured the thickness of the brain‘s cortex 34. It can be inferred from the last paragraph that _____________. A. it must be hard for kids to read music B. kids are more likely to learn music by hearing C. Wang‘s explanation has been the most reasonable D. Wang will research into the reasons for the brain change 35. For what purpose does the author write the text? A. To describe the development of brain. B. To challenge the previous discoveries. C. To present the findings of the research. D. To give advice on how to learn music. 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分)EBFGC 根据短文内容, 从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。 选项中有两项为多余

选项。 About 45% of the people surveyed say their workplace is the hardest place to sell a good idea. The next largest group, 21%, say home is. Here Mattson offers 5 ways of outing an idea across so that the right people will listen. 1. Don‘t take rejection (拒绝) personally. ―One of the major blocks for people trying to sell a concept is that, if the idea is rejected, they take it as a rejection of them personally—and they stop trying,‖ Mattson says. 36 . Most major-league players strike out far more than they hit. Even so, they keep trying. 2. 37 . Many of us (especially the shy) use email to put our best ideas forward, but that‘s not nearly as effective as doing it in person or, if necessary, on the phone. ―You have your voice working for you, and you can be far more responsive(回应) to any questions the other person may have,‖ Mattson says. 3. Listen 70% of the time, and talk 30%. ―In the sales world there‘s a saying: 38 .‖ Mattson says. ―Top salespeople don‘t persuade others. Instead, they listen, which forces you to focus on the other person--what their position is, and why they‘re responding the way they are.‖ 4. Practice. 39 . He or she will help you improve. Mattson recommends repeating your idea six times before presenting it to decision-makers. ―The first one or two times, you‘ll still be figuring out how you want to put it,‖ he says. ―By the sixth time, you‘re usually speaking with certainty and confidence.‖ 5. Get others to weigh in. ―Successful selling isn‘t ?I‘, it‘s ?we‘,‖ Mattson says. ― 40 So include their suggestions in your idea.‖ Not only will that probably make the idea even better, but you‘ll still get the credit for having gotten the ball rolling. A. Never buy what you don‘t need. B. Use your voice, rather than email. C. People want to be part of solution. D. Talk on the phone in an effective way. E. Everybody hates to be sold but loves to buy. G. Find someone you trust who will hear you out. 第三部分:英语知识运用(共两节,满分 45 分) 第一节:完形填空 This always began after breakfast:―go ahead, everyone. 书面表达(25 分) One possible version: Looking back to the National English Speaking Competition I took several days ago, I have a lot to share with you. For a start, I feel really delighted that I’ve won the first prize in the competition, which makes me understand the true meaning of the proverb “no pains, no gains”. Furthermore, in the five-day competition, I established a close friendship with students from all over our country, from whom I’ve learned a lot. More importantly, taking this competition has enabled me to overcome my fear of speaking in public, thus developing my self-confidence. Additionally, I owe many thanks to my tutor and the judges, without whose proper help, I couldn’t have done such an excellent job. To sum up, I will always cherish this meaningful and memorable experience.
