Johnson was the longest surviving person born HIV positive( 艾滋病病毒携带者 ). He survived with this deadly disease for 12 years before it claimed his life. He stood in front of a large audience including South African President Thabo Mbeki. He told them that he wanted AZY, a drug used to treat AIDS patients, to be given to HIV-positive pregnant(怀孕的) women to stop the disease being passed on to their unborn babies. Among various programs, TV talk shows have covered every inch of space on daytime television. But no two shows are more opposite in content, while at the same time standing out above the rest, than the Jerry Springer and Oprah Winfrey shows. Jerry Springer could easily be considered the king of ―rubbish talk‖. The show takes the ever-common talk show titles of love, sex, cheating, and hate, to a different level. Clearly, the Jerry Springer show is about the dark side of society, yet people are willing to eat up the troubles of other people’s lives. Like Jerry Springer, Oprah Winfrey takes the TV talk show to its top. But Oprah goes in the opposite direction. The show is mainly about the improvement of society and different quality of life. Contents are from teaching your children lessons, managing your work week, to getting to know your neighbors. Compared to Oprah, the Jerry Springer show looks like poisonous waste being poured into society. Jerry ends every show with a ―final word‖. He makes a small speech about the entire idea of the show. Hopefully, this is the part where most people will learn something very valuable. Clean as it is, the Oprah show is not for everyone. The show’s main audience are middle-class Americans. Most of the people have the time, money and ability to deal with life’s tough problems. Jerry Springer, on the other hand, has more of a connection with the young adults of society. 53. Compared with other TV talk shows, both the Jerry Springer and the Oprah Winfrey shows are ____. A．more interesting B．unusually poplar C．more detailed D．more formal 54. Though the social problems Jerry Springer talks about appear unpleasant, people who watch the shows ______． A．remain interested in them B．are ready to face up to them C．remain cold to them D．are willing to get away from them 55．Which of the following is likely to be a topic of the Oprah Winfrey show? A．A new type of robot． B．National hatred． C．Family income planning． D．Street accident． 56. What is the advantage of the Jerry Springer show? A. The show exposes the dark sides of society. B. The show pours poisonous waste into society. C. Jerry sums up(总结) the whole idea of the show. D. Jerry talks about the improvement of society. 57．We can learn from the passage that the two talk shows ____． A．have become the only ones of its kind B．exploit the weaknesses in human nature C．appear at different times of the day D．attract different people 58. __________________________________________________________ 第六节 在本节中， 你将读到一篇短文。 根据所读内容在短文后表格中的空格处填入一个恰 当的词，并将答案写在答题卡上对应处。每空一词。 Part VI In this part, you will read a passage and a table with four blanks. Use the information you get from the passage to fill in the blanks and write your answer on the answer sheet. Put only ONE word in each blank.
We were going to play against a team from a country school. They didn’t come until the last minute. They looked worse than we had thought. They were wearing dirty blue trousers and looked like farm boys. We sat down for a rest. We felt that we didn’t need any practice against a team like that. The game began. One of us got the ball and he shot a long pass to our forward(前锋). From out of nowhere a boy in an old T-shirt stopped the ball and with beautiful style he shot and got two points. Then another two points in a minute. Soon the game was all over. We were beaten by the country team. After that, we thought a lot. We certainly learned that even though your team is very good, you can’t look down upon the others and still need to do your best. And the most important lesson we learned was: One can’t judge a person or a team only by their clothes. The event we would face The time the team arrived The result of the game The lesson we get from the competition We were going to play 59 against a team from a country school. We didn’t start the game until the team from the country arrived the last 60 . The team from the country school We can’t judge a person by his 62 61 . the game
