Things started well, but just after eight o’clock, his three little ―good kids‖—Mike, Randy, and Alex—came down the stairs in their night clothes and shouted ―breakfast, daddy.‖ When food had not appeared within thirty seconds, Randy began using his spoon on Alex’s head as if it were a drum. Alex started to shout loudly in time to the beat(节拍). Mike chanted ―Where’s my toast, where’s my toast,‖ in the background. Brad realized his newspaper would have to wait for a few seconds. Life became worse after breakfast. Mike wore Randy’s underwear on his head. Randy locked himself in the bathroom, while Alex shouted again because he was goin g to wet his pants. Nobody could find clean socks, although they were before their very eyes. Someone named ―Not Me‖ had spilled a whole glass of orange juice into the basket of clean clothes. Mike was trying to show off his talent by decorating the kitchen wall with his colour pencils. Randy, thankfully, appeared to be reading quietly in the family room, but closer examination showed that he was eating apple jam straight from the bottle with his hands. Brad realized that the talk show was over and reading would be impossible. At exactly11:17, Brad called the daycare centre(日托所). ―I suddenly have to go into work and my wife’s away. Britain’s Prince Charles took a ride on the London Underground for t he first time in a quarter century. Charles and his wife, Camilla, joined government officials and passengers to mark the 150th anniversary of the Underground, the world’s first subway system. The subway system, which sees 3.5 million journeys a day, is well known for warning passengers to be careful when boarding the train. The couple traveled one stop, from Farringdon to King’s Cross on the Metropolitan Line — the oldest part of the subway system, opened in 1863. Charles last traveled by subway in 1986, when he and the late Princess Diana took the Underground to Heathrow Airport to open a new terminal. London Underground, in partnership with London Transport Museum, is celebrating with a

series of events and activities throughout 2013. The events will explore the underground’s history and look at the role it will play in the future – both in the lives of Londoners and the economy of the City and the UK. The Underground plays a big part in the lives of Londoners, connecting people and places across the capital. During 2013, Art on the Underground will present a program in which 15 leading British artists will bring artworks into every station on the Underground. Other activities include screenings of London Underground themed films and a special collection of gifts and souvenirs. All items in the collection can all be bought online in the London Transport Museum shop. 66. Prince Charles took the Underground this year to _________. Artists bring artworks into London Underground D. London Underground marks its 150th anniversary D Many of the drugs we take aren’t actually digested — they pass through our bodies, and down through the sewer pipes. Traces of those drugs end up in the bodies of fish and other wildlife. Nobody’s sure what effect they have. Now, a paper being published in Science magazine finds that drugs to treat anxiety can affect the behavior of fish. This particular story starts with some fish that live in a creek just downstream from a sewage treatment plant in southern Sweden. Scientists collected the perch (鲈鱼) in that area and discovered that they had accumulated low levels of anxiety drugs in their bodies. Environmental scientist Jonatan Klaminder led a couple of his workmate at Umea University in Sweden to tackle this question in the lab.

In the lab, they put some perch in a fish tank to see how they behaved under normal circumstances. Then they added some of a anxiety drug called oxazepam into the tank. The concentrations (浓度) of the drug were the same to those f ound in the river. "They became more unsociable and more active, and they were actually more effective in eating," Klaminder says. "This drug actually removes some of the fear, the sense of fear, from these fishes. So instead of being afraid they focus on feeding.," Staying close to others is a well-known defence system to avoid natural enemies. In the wild, it is highly dangerous for a small fish to move away from the fish group. "The most likely outcome will be that a bigger fish will eat it," he says. Over time, the whole food chain will be changed. The problem doesn’t present an obvious threat to people who might drink water from streams or eat the fish that live in them. The presence of drugs in surface waters – or even in fish and shellfish – is much lower than the levels that you might need to be concerned about, say Bryan Brook says Bryan Brooks of Baylor University in Waco, Texas, USA. But he warns that isn’t necessarily the case in the developing world. "Some studies show, for example, some rivers in India have the highest concentrations of drugs in the environment," he says. "So the developing world really deserves some additional attention." 71. The author wrote the text in order to _____. A. solve a problem B. give some advice C. tell an interesting story D. show the results of some research 72. Why did the researchers add oxazepam into the fish container? A. To treat a serious fish disease. B. To develop a new anxiety drug. C. To reduce the anxiety of wild perch. D. To copy wild perch’s living conditions. 73. In the experiment, which is one of the perch’s changes in behavior? A. They ate much less food. B. They spent more time alone. C. They helped each other when feeding. D. They worried more about their enemies. 74. According to the research, the anxiety drugs in rivers ______. A. reduce the number of wild perch B. make large fish calm down easily C. have deadly effect on small perch D. help wild fish become muc h healthier 75. In the opinion of Bryan Brooks, _______. A. drugs in rivers may be a threat to developing countries B. it is quite safe to drink water with anxiety drugs in India C. Americans should be more careful about drugs in rivers D. in the USA fish with drugs in their bodies cannot be eaten 第 II 卷 非选择题 (共 35 分) 第四部分:写作(共两节,满分 35 分) 第一节:阅读表达(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) 阅读下面的短文,请根据短文后的要求答题。 [1]Many American fathers have got gifts from their families in honor of Father’s Day. Some men may be hoping for a shiny new grill(烤架) to bring smoky, fiery(燃烧的) happiness to

cooking outdoors. More than half of Americans say they cook outdoors throughout the year. But the warmer months bring more people outside. So this is a good time for food safety expert to make their efforts to educate the public. [2]Disease-control officials say that about one in six Americans get sick from food each year. 130,000 have to go to a hospital for food poisoning. And 3,000 die. Health Officials say these numbers usually increase during this time of year as more Americans cook and eat outdoors. [3]The United States Department of agriculture started its Meat and Poultry Hotline in 1985. The Meat and Poultry Hotline has expanded its programs to include Spanish language services. Also, people can ask questions through email and live chats and get information on social media sites. [4]The hotline receives about 70,000 telephone calls a year from people with food safety questions. They teach consumers every day, one to one, about how to handle food safely and to prevent food-related illness. In addition, they also take calls that are related to complaints about food products that have led to foods being recalled, and that has probably saved lives. [5]One of the Hotline workers said, ―One of the most important things is to make sure your meat is fully cooked. It’s not recommended that anybody be having a rare hamburger when they are cooking out in the summer. If you’re cooking eggs, make sure the yolks(蛋黄) are fresh.
