阅读理解。 A few days ago I got a call from my old college friend whom I haven't seen for a very long time. The topic, which was about all the good old times that we had changed to a touching story when he started talking about his father. His father's declining health made him stay at the hospital. Because of his illness, his father suffered from insomnia(失眠) and often talked to himself. My friend, who had not been able to sleep for a few days as he had to keep watching his father's condition, became irritated and told his father to keep silent and try to get some sleep. His father said that he really wanted to sleep well because he was very tired and told my friend to leave him alone in the hospital if he did not want to keep him company. After his father finished talking, he fell unconscious(失去知觉) . My friend was very sorry for speaking the ill words towards his father. My friend, whom I knew as a tough person, cried as a baby on the other end of the telephone. He said that from that moment on, he prayed every day, asking God to let his father wake up from his coma. He promised himself that whatever words came out from his father's mouth after he regained his consciousness, he would gladly take them. His only hope for God was to give him a chance to rectify his past mistake. Often, we complain when we have to accompany or watch over our parents for years, months, days, hours or even minutes. long as we (or they)live? From the day we were born to our adulthood, and even when deaths come to us, they are always at our side. Imagine how sad our parents will be when they hear a seemingly innocent word of "no" come out from our mouths. We can make promises to ourselves that from now on there will be no more complaints that come out from our mouths when we have to watch over or accompany our parents. No more complaints come out from our mouths when we feel that our parents have treated us like little children. There are so many unlucky ones who have neither fathers nor mothers. They long to have the things that we most complain about, but never have them. Actually, it takes only a second to think and light the lamp that will bring us to a place where peace is dwelling. 1. Which of the following word can be used to describe the writer's friend? A. Sad B. Sorry C. Regretful D. Pitiful 2. What does the underlined word "rectify" mean in Para. 3? 阅读理解。 Diving around Halaveli Island was a really unforgettable experience. I participated in a day diving trip that had lunch on the boat. We went to Maalhoss Thila first. The current (水流) can be very strong here but we were lucky and had a mild one. We enjoyed all the different colors of coral and fish. The maximum depth of this dive was 30m, and we stayed for about 40 minutes. The water was reasonably warm, so I was not cold only wearing a short-sleeved wetsuit. I was a bit worried about having lunch on the boat, as sometimes my stomach feels bad, but it was perfectly fine this time -perhaps because the boat had not stopped and was moving toward the other dive place, or because the size of the boat was reasonably large. Our next diving place was called Manta. And as expect-ed, the huge Manta was soon around us. It is one of the most exciting moments I have had in my life. We only dove to 14m this time, which allowed us to stay a bit longer -almost 50 minutes. On the way back all the women took strategic position on the deck, sunbathing and relaxing, while the men were getting bored and ate the leftovers from lunch. No matter how different we were, we all enjoyed our trip. Another dive I would like to recommend(推荐)is called Maaya Thila, and it is the best night dive I have ever had. We saw a huge turtle sleeping in a cave, and sharks playfully chasing each other. They did not look friendly at all, but fortunately they did not decided to have us for dinner. But anyway what happened that night under water will remain a fond memory to be retold on special occasions by all the participants. It will be told with a smile on our faces. 1. What information can we get from the passage?_____ A. The author enjoyed different colors of fish in Manta. B. Diving in Maaya Thila is one of the most unforgettable experience for the author. C. The author dove into Maaya Thila and stayed there for 50 minutes. D. There were no dangerous sharks in Maaya Thila. 2. The author was worried about having lunch on the boat because ______ A. the boat was not stopped B. it was moving toward the other dive place C. the boat was not big enough D. he / she felt sick when eating on boats

with the virus that causes AIDS. The relationships that I have had with these special kids have been gifts in my life. They have taught me so many things, but I have especially learned that great courage can be found in the smallest of packages. Let me tell you about Tyler. Tyler was born infected with HIV: his mother was also infected. From the very beginning of his life, he was dependent on medications to enable him to survive. When he was five, he had a tube surgically inserted in a vein in his chest. This tube was connected to a pump, which he carried in a small backpack on his back. Medications were hooked up to this pump and were continuously supplied through this tube to his bloodstream. At times, he also needed supplemented oxygen to support his breathing. Tyler wasn't willing to give up one single moment of his childhood to this deadly disease. It was not unusual to find him playing and racing around his backyard, wearing his medicine - laden backpack and dragging his tank of oxygen behind him in his little wagon. All of us who knew Tyler marveled at his pure joy in being alive and the energy it gave him. Tyler's mom often teased him by telling him that he moved so fast she needed to dress him in red. That way, when she peered through the window to check on him playing in the yard, she could quickly spot him. This dreaded disease eventually wore down even the likes of a little dynamo like Tyler. He grew quite ill and, unfortunately, so did his HIV-infected mother. When it became apparent that he wasn't going to survive, Tyler's mom talked to him about death. She comforted him by telling Tyler that she was dying too, and that she would be with him soon in heaven. A few days before his death, Tyler beckoned me over to his hospital bed and whispered, "I might die soon. I'm not scared. When I die, please dress me in red. Mom promised she's coming to heaven, too. I'll be playing when she gets there, and I want to make sure she can find me." 1. What is the boy Tyler's attitude towards death? [ ] A. optimistic. B. pessimistic. C. sorrowful. D. fearful. 2. 阅读理解。 It was a cold grey day in late November. The weather had changed overnight, when a backing wind brought a pale sky and a muzzling rain with it, and although it was now only a little after two o'clock in the afternoon the gray of a winter evening seemed to have closed upon the hills, surrounding them in mist. It would be dark by four. The air was cold, and for all the tightly closed windows it influenced the inside of the coach. The leather seats felt damp to the hands, and there must have been a small crack in the roof, because now and again little drips of rain fell softly through, polluting the leather and leaving a dark-blue stain like a spot of ink. The wind came in, at times shaking the coach as it traveled round the bend of the road, and in the exposed places on the high ground it blew with such force that the whole body of the coach trembled and swayed, rocking between the high wheels like a drunken man. The driver, muffled (裹住) in a great coat to his ears, bent almost double in his seat in a faint endeavor to gain shelter from his own shoulders. The few passengers pressed together for warmth, exclaiming all together when the coach sank into a heavier rut (车辙) than usual, and one old fellow, who had kept up

a constant complaint ever since he had joined the coach at Truro, rose from his seat in anger; and, feeling with the window-frame, let the window down with a crash, bringing a shower of rain upon himself and his fellow-passengers. He thrust his head out and shouted up to the driver, scolding him in a angry voice for a rogue and a murderer; that they would all be dead before they reached Bodmin if he persisted in driving at dangerous speed; they had no breath left in their bodies as it was, and he would never travel by coach again. 1. What is the main image the author gives in this description? [ ] A. In terrible weather, a coach was running fast in mud with complaining passengers on it. B. On a cold and rainy day the coach broke and the driver was repairing it on the road. C. On a cold night the driver and the passengers felt very cold and struggled in the rain. D. The bad condition of the road resulted in the bad mood of the passengers. 2. Which of the following is correct according to the text? [ ] A. The windows were tightly closed, so the cold air was kept outside the coach. B. The spot of ink stained leather, so the seats felt damp to the hands. C. Most probably the roof of the coach was broken. D. There was a drunken man swaying constantly on the coach. 3. The expression "muffled in a great coat to... his own shoulders" implies _____. [ ] A. the driver felt very cold and tried to change his seat B. the driver felt comfortable by doing in that way C. The driver felt very cold and tried to gain warmth D. The driver tried to protect his ears and shoulders 4. We can learn from the text that _____. [ ] A. the coach was running slowly due to the bad weather B. an old passenger who got on the coach at Truro was angry about the windows C. one of the passengers on the coach was a murderer D. the few passengers let out exclamations as the coach moved violently

A careful examination later 5 that it was a particularly bad sort of cancer. During her next appointment, I explained to her the 6 of the problem. She clasped my hand in hers and said," I know you're worried about me, but I'm just 7 " I thought otherwise. About six months later she returned to my office, still energetic and 11 . " How are you?" I asked. " I'm just fine, honey," she responded 12 high spirits."When can I get started on fixing my dentures (假牙)?" Surprised to see her at all, I answered 13 ," Let me take a look in your mouth and we'll see about it." " I couldn't believe my eyes. The cancer that had 14 nearly the entire roof of her mouth was gone-only one small area of redness 15 . I had read of such things happening, but had 16 seen them with my own eyes. 完形填空。 Learning experiences happen to us throughout our lives. Not long ago, I had one that I would like to 1 . I was going to Marblehead with my sailboat team. The team was racing down the highway at 85 mph 2 we realized we were 3 . Luckily, we saw a rest area ahead. I had a brand new $20 bill. I was so 4 because I had never had that kind of cash before. But spending it on 5 seemed like throwing it away. We all rushed into the pizza line. 6 I got a pizza and a drink, and walked to my table. About half way through the meal, I 7 I had not actually handed any money to the cashier. I had just 8 out, and nobody had noticed, I felt terrible. My conscience (良心) opened its mouth and swallowed me in one big bite. I couldn't 9 over it. I just could n't go back to the cashier and 10 for my stolen pizza. I was so upset that I 11 to give myself the pleasure of an ice-cream for 12 that someone would say, "Hey, Jeff, why don't you use the change 13 the pizza instead of that nice, new $20 bill?" I was not so 14 of my cash now. For the next two years, whenever I was 15 of the "pizza incident", I would say to myself, "Don't think about it..." I have learned two things from this 16 . Maybe I was a fool for 17 in to my conscience, and being too stupid to appreciate a 18 pizza. But the real lesson is that even if you get away from what you have done, your conscience 19 up with you. This reflect the saying, "A coward (懦夫) dies a thousand deaths; a hero dies one." I was a coward and have felt terrible about that incident at least a thousand times. If I had been a " 20 " and gone back to pay for the pizza, I would have felt a little uncomfortable about it only once, or maybe twice. ( )1. A.say B.talk B.talk D.explain
