How much are these pants?
Good morning/afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Nice to meet you here. I'd like to say It’s my great pleasure to be here interpreting my lesson . I’m Fan Yunbao, an English teacher from No.3 Middle School of Xiushui County. Today I’ll introduce my designing of Section B ,Unit7 in Book One, Junior One. My interpretation contains 7 parts: 1. analyzing the students; 2. teaching materials; 3.teaching aims; 4. teaching strategies & teaching aids; 5. teaching procedure ; 6. blackboard design; 7. reflections of designing. ☆█☆ First, let me talk about the

analysis of the students. As we know, the

students of junior one are between 12 and 14 years old. They’re all active, curious and thirsty for knowledge ;they also like showing off. So ,I try to create a good language environment, and stimulate students’ interest in learning ,aiming to improve the teaching effectiveness. At the same time, in the previous units, students have learnt about General Questions , Special Questions and numbers 0-9.They’ve also mastered certain basic skills in

listening , speaking , reading and writing. All the above lay the foundation for learning the sentence pattern How much...? in this unit. ☆█☆ Now ,I’ll analyze

the teaching materials. The textbook we use belongs

to Go for it series. And this lesson is focused on Activities 1a-2c ,Section B of Unit 7.This is a stage of development and improvement. Learning the numbers 10-31 and using them to talk about prices are the main points and difficult ones.

In my opinion, the original teaching schedule is not that suitable for learning. So I adjust the text in five respects as follows:

1.mix up Activities 1a and 1b;present Arabic numbers along with the English words by PPT. This way ,I can attract the students’ attention and stimulate their interest in learning; 2.offer a group of subtraction problems to consolidate the vocabularies; 3.delete Activity 2a for its uselessness; 4.the Group Work in Activity 2c is organized before listening, combined with recognizing the picture in Activity 2b; 5.end up this lesson with the song How Much by Twins; let the students finish this study in Beautiful melodies. melodies.

All these adjustments are aimed at a more active and effective lesson.
☆█☆ Thirdly, I’ll talk about

the teaching aims. According to the new standard

curriculum and the syllabus, after studying the teaching materials and analyzing the status of the students, I set the teaching aims as follows: 1. Knowledge objectives: a) words: ten , eleven , twelve , ....thirty-one b) sentence pattern: How much are these pants? They ‘re $18. 2. Ability objectives: The Ss can use the pattern to express their thoughts in the proper situation; that is ,using the numbers to talk about prices. 3. Emotion objectives: The students experience shopping scenes and learn to communicate politely. ☆█☆ Now let’s come to

the teaching strategies and teaching aids .In

this lesson I’ll mainly use task-driven method, cooperating, induction approach, taskcomparative approach and evaluation . Teaching aids includes a multimedia , a USB with the courseware , a blackboard and some chalk. ☆█☆ Ok , it’s time to introduce the most important part---

the teaching

procedure.

I divide this lesson into four periods: warming-up, leading-in &

learning ,consolidation & practice , summarizing & homework-layout. Period One.

warmingwarming-up (this period contains 3 steps and may last about 5 minutes):

Step 1, greet the students; then walk toward the students, pick up some items
such as a pen ,a notebook and so on ,and say “Wow, what a nice pen ! Where do you buy it ? How much is it ?” In this way ,I naturally lead the students to review the sentence pattern How much and numbers 0-9;

Step 2, shift the topic to clothing, show some pictures of clothes ,students write
down the words and talk about the colors;

Step 3, list all the items mentioned above by means of PPT so that students can
experience the sense of accomplishment.

This period of knowledge consolidation prepares the students to learn the new words in the following steps.
Period Two.

leadingleading-in & learning.(This includes 4 steps and may last 24 minutes)

Step 1, walk back to students, pick up two different objects ,and ask about their total
price. Of course , they can’t answer my question because they don’t know how to express the numbers over 10.They need to learn more. In this case, I present the Arabic numbers 10-31 along with the English words by PPT; teach their

pronunciations, lead the students to compare the words and find out the spelling rules ( -teen, -ty );

Step 2, Wipe the Arabic numbers, let students read the words again ; Step 3, get them to put the words in the right order to test their effect of learning; Step 4, offer a quiz; present a group of subtraction problems to consolidate the
vocabularies.

In this period, students learn the new words little by little , step by matches step ,which matches the Language Cognition Laws well.
Period Three, consolidation

& practice(This contains 4 steps and may last 12 minutes)

Step 1, present the picture of Activity 2b in Page 44, let the students talk about the
scene, the clothes and their prices;

Step 2, Play the recording of 2b, students listen and experience the shopping
scene;

Step 3, Play the recording again, students tick out the items mentioned in the
dialogue;

Step 4, Play the recording once more , students listen and repeat ; at the same
time ,deal with the language difficulties.

In this period, students develop their abilities of using English by learn.” experiencing a real situation. “Involve me , I learn.” As it is , using English is the final goal of leaning .
Period Four. summarizing

homework& homework-layout(This may need 4 minutes)

Step 1, Summarize the learning points in this lesson;

Step 2, tell the students to recite the words after class and make up a dialogue
about their own items with partners;

Step 3, Play the song How Much sung by Twins; end the lesson in the beautiful and
relaxing melodies.

I think a concise summary can help students to straighten out their thoughts of learning and necessary homework is a good way to form a good learning habit.
☆█☆ These are the teaching processes of my lesson. Next, I’ll show you my

blackboard designing.

On the top I ‘ll write down the title “U7 How much are and the new words. I’ll show

these pants ?” On the left side are the sentence pattern

the comparisons of words(-teen, -ty ) on the right side of the blackboard. At the bottom are the words mentioned in the listening part. ☆█☆ Finally, I’d like to say something about my

reflections of designing. I

think the adjustment is successful, it fits the New Curriculum Reform ; and this class is rich in activities, especially the novel design of PPT, which contribute a lot to attracting the students’ attention and stimulating their interest in learning; what satisfies me most

is the English song--it matches the topic of this unit perfectly and also enriches the students’ life; Of course, the length of time depends on the students’ reactions, so there may be a little adjustment in each period.
