第一节 （共 15 小题；每小题 2 分，共 40 分）
阅读下列短文，从每题所给的 A、B、C、D 四个选项中，选出最佳选项，并在答题卡上将该项
If you are a skydiving beginner, you'll need to read this article to learn which skydiving
method to choose. There are three ways you can experience the thrill of skydiving and the only
requirement is that you are at least eighteen years old and have a weight of less than 250
pounds. You also have to be free of any heart disease or severe medical conditions.
Skydiving courses, in most cases, work the same way. A qualified instructor will get you
trained and he'll try to scare you and make you not jump. That's because the only thing he
doesn't want is a student who panics while free falling. You'll then have to fill a lot of papers
that you must go through and sign some documents if you want to jump. These are very scary
but you'll have to sign them if you want to jump.
When choosing the method you'll first skydive, you have to consider how much time you
have and how much cash you've got. Of course, how brave you are is another factor and
depending on these factors you'll have to choose one of three methods for your first jump. The
methods are tandem (双人跳伞) , static line(固定拉绳) and accelerated free fall. If what you
want is to fly freely, you have to go for accelerated free fall. Just want a nice ride, tandem might
be the best choice. If you just want a quick ride you can go for static line.
A good thing to take into consideration is videotaping your first jump, which costs from
$50 to $100. You'll love looking back at how scared you were when jumping out of an airplane.
If you choose to videotape your jump, another skydiver will jump before you do from the
airplane and fly near you with a camera.
46. According to the passage, the necessary factors for a skydiver are ____.
A. age, experience and methods
B. weight, age and health
C. age, weight and medicine
D. skills, documents and courage
47. What is the possible reason for a skydiver to sign documents?
A. It is an important course for skydiving.
B. You should be responsible for yourself if you get hurt.
C. It helps to reduce panics while skydiving.
D. Make sure that you are well trained.
48. If you want to have a nice skydiving, you'd better choose ____.
49. It's good to videotape your first jump because you can ____.
A. get more experience for the next jump
B. enjoy the jump with your family
C. show your first jump to others
D. review the exciting moment
Not long ago, few little girls imagined they could grow up to bee astronauts. For years in
the United States, only men had that opportunity. In 1983, that changed. Sally Ride made
history by being the first American woman to travel into space.
On Monday, Ride died at the age of 61. "Sally was a national hero and a powerful role
model,” President Barack Obama said in a statement. “She inspired generations of young girls
to reach for the stars."
Ride became interested in space when she was a kid. “If you asked me when I was 12
whether I wanted to be an astronaut, I’m sure I would have said yes,” she said in a xx interview.
“But I didn’t even think about that as a possible career.”
After studying physics in college and graduate school, Ride got her chance. She was
accepted into NASA’s astronaut training program in 1978, and then chosen to be the first
American female in space. In 1983, she was sent into space aboard the Challenger shuttle.
“There is no amusement park ride on Earth that even es close,” she said.
Ride returned to space on the Challenger a second time in 1984. Between the two
missions(使命), she spent a total of 343 hours in orbit. After that, she remained involved with
the space program and also worked to share her passion for science with kids. She wrote five
science books for children, and started her own science education pany.
Ride knew that she held a unique place in history. “I realized how important it was for a
woman to break that barrier(障碍) and open the door for other women to be able to do the
same exciting things that the men had been doing,” she said.
Since Ride’s historic trip, more than 40 other American women have traveled to space.
They all had Ride to thank for opening the door to the final frontier.

E Most cell phone panies design models especially for kids. But parents are usually the ones buying the phones, and paying the bill. According to a July xx study, 56% of parents of children aged 8 to 12 have given their children a cell phone. The percentage goes up with age. The study, by ORC International for the National Consumers League (NCL), basically proves what many people already assumed: many kids, if not most, have their own cell phones. According to a recent YouthBeat survey, 12 is the magic number. It is the most mon age for kids to get their first cellphone. But 13% of children aged 6 to 10 already have one. That’s more than one out of every 10 kids. Pro-cell phone people, including many parents, hold that cell phones help kids keep in touch with their friends and families. They believe that cell phones are an important tool in an emergency. Kids can stay connected with their parents at all times, whether it’s to ask for a ride home from soccer practice or to receive a good-luck text message moment before a big game. Plus, some people say having a cellphone helps teach kids to be responsible. Some cell phones designed for kids can be controlled with settings that allow the phone to only be used in parent-approved ways. What’s the harm in that? But other people are worried about the health and safety effects of kids' cell phones. They believe that plugged-in kids could be missing out on other activities, such as playing outside or hanging out with friends, and that sending text messages or fielding phone calls while doing homework is bad for concentration. They say that kids are spending too much time texting instead of talking to each other. "Our brains evolved(进化) to municate face to face," says Gary Small, a professor of psychiatry at the UCLA School of Medicine, in California. "A lot of this is lost with texting.” Another concern is cyberbullying(网络欺凌), which is on the rise as more kids use e-mail and text messages to municate. And some experts are concerned about possible health risks. They worry that radiation—or energy waves—released by cellphones could be harmful to young people. To be safe, many child doctors advise limiting talk time. 57. We can learn from the first two paragraphs that ___________. A. only 10 % of children aged 6 to 10 already have cellphones
B. all the kids have their own cellphones by the age of 12 C. the percentage of kids owning cellphones increases with age D. the earliest age for kids to get their first cellphone is 8 58. According to Paragraph 3, “Pro-cell phone people” are people who ________ A. design special cellphones for kids B. promise to buy cellphones for kids C. approve of kids using cellphones D. forbid children to use cellphones 59. According to Gary Small, _____________. A. using cellphones does no good to kids’ development B. texting while doing homework is OK for concentration C. cellphones help kids contact their friends and families D. cellphones is helpful for face-to-face munication 60. The purpose of the passage is to __________. A. argue for kids using cellphones B. argue against kids using cellphones C. tell the result of a recent survey D. present a debate about kids using cellphones
E Do you want to live with a strong sense of peacefulness, happiness, goodness, and self-respect? The collection of happiness actions broadly categorized (把…归类) as "honor" help you create this life of good feelings. Here’s an example to show how honorable actions create happiness. Say a store clerk fails to charge us for an item. If we keep silent, and profit from the clerk's mistake, we would drive home with a sense of sneaky (卑鄙的) excitement. Later we might tell our family or friends about our good fortune. On the other hand, if we tell the clerk about the uncharged item, the clerk would be grateful and thank us for our honesty. We would leave the store with a quiet sense of honor that we might never share with another soul. Then, what is it to do with our sense of happiness? In the first case, where we don’t tell the clerk, a couple of things would happen. Deep down inside we would know ourselves as a type of thief. In the process, we would lose some peace of mind and self-respect. We would also demonstrate(演示) that we cannot be trusted, since we advertise our dishonor by telling our family and friends. We damage our own reputations(声誉) by telling others. In contrast, bringing the error to the clerk's attention causes different things to happen. Immediately the clerk knows us to be honorable. Upon leaving the store, we feel honorable and our self-respect is increased. Whenever we take honorable action we gain the deep internal rewards of goodness and a sense of nobility(高尚). There is a beautiful positive cycle that is created by living a life of honorable actions. Honorable thoughts lead to honorable actions. Honorable actions lead us to a happier existence. And it’s easy to think and act honorably again when we're happy. While the positive cycle can be difficult to start, once it's started, it's easy to continue. Keeping on doing good deeds brings us peace of mind, which is important for our happiness. 61. According to the passage, the positive action in the example contributes to our_____. A. advertising ability B. financial rewards C. self-respect D. friendly relationship
62. The author thinks that keeping silent about the uncharged item is equal to ______.
B. advertising C. cheating
63. The underlined phrase "bringing the error to the clerk's attention" means _____.
A. asking the clerk to be more attentive
B. offering advice to the clerk
C. telling the truth to the clerk
D. reminding the clerk of the charged item
64. How will we feel if we let the clerk know her mistake?
A. We’ll feel unfortunate.
B. We’ll be very excited.
C. We’ll have a sense of honor.
D. We’ll feel sorry for the clerk.
65. Which of the following can be the best title for this passage?
A. Happiness through Honorable Actions
B. Importance of Peacefulness
C. Ways of Gaining Self-respect
D. How to Live Truthfully
